Another Australian test player, Victorian captain Dean Jones,
also reportedly revealed Monday that he was offered 66,000 Australian dollars by an Indian bookmaker to provide inside information on his team during the 1992-1993 tour of Sri Lanka.
Dean Jones told the Sydney Morning Herald he had been approached
by a bookmaker who boasted of having at least five international
cricketers in his pay. "I refused the offer straight away,"
Jones said, adding that he had reported it immediately to team
officials. "It was not an offer to fix a game. He just wanted an
Australian player on his book to offer information as to the
likely 12th man, the state of the pitch or the fitness of
players," he said.
