Lara set a new world record in a match against Durham yesterday.
He scored 501* which now is the highest first class score. Its
the first time that someone is holding both the test and Firstclass record. It took him 9 hrs and he hit 62 fours and 10
sixes.
His last seven innings scores are : 147, 106, 120, 136, 26, 140,
501. Total 1176 runs at an average of 235.20.
After the B&H semi-finals against Surrey, Lara is flying home for
a one-week holiday to be with his widowed mother. He says,
hopefully that would rest him enough to come back and score runs
again.
The match continued on, when the rival captains could not agree
for a draw. Dermot Reeve, had asked Lara to bat all day. Lara
who was 111* overnight obliged hitting 501 after which
Reeve declared. Hanif Mohammed, the previous record holder
(499 runout) has said that he knew his record was in danger
when he saw Lara's test innings of 375.
