Former Sri Lanka captain Ranjan Madugalle has been appointed as a
match referee of the International Cricket Council for the 1996
World Cup to be held in the Indian sub continent.
This is the first time that a Sri Lankan has been named as a
World Cup match referee. The ICC has also appointed 36-year-old
Madugalle as match referee for the forthcoming New Zealand's home
series against Pakistan next month.
This is the second time that the former Sri Lanka right-hand middle order batsman will function as an ICC match referee.
He is the first and the only Sri Lankan to be honoured as an ICC
match referee having officiated at the three-Test series between
Pakistan and Zimbabwe in 1993.
