ASHLEY METCALFE has been given the chance to resurrect his career by joining Nottinghamshire.
The 31-year-old Yorkshire batsman has agreed to join Notts on a two-year contract after being released by his native county.
Metcalfe had suffered a frustrating time with Yorkshire in recent seasons due to the emergence of young players such as Michael Vaughan and Anthony McGrath, but he proved his form late last season by scoring a century against the West Indies.
"For a long time at Yorkshire he was considered one of the best opening batsmen in the country and was even talked about as an England player," said Notts cricket manager Alan Ormrod.
Metcalfe, son-in-law of England manager Ray Illingworth, has just come to the end of a benefit year with Yorkshire.
