Northerns won the Under 19 domestic championship at the University of Pretoria when they beat Boland by an innings and 61 runs in the final.
Northerns won the toss and elected to bowl, restricting Boland to 165 all out (Sean Kristal 63, Quinton Kannemeyer 61). The star of the Northerns attack was Francois du Plessis who took four for 36 in 21.1 overs. He was ably supported by Heinrich le Roux who chipped in with 3/30 off 19 overs.
In reply, Northerns amassed 476 all out, with SA Schools wicketkeeper AB de Villiers top-scoring with 99 and the SA Colts captain Francois du Plessis scoring 75. Sammy Nhlengetwa scored 74 in a solid batting performance. Of the Boland bowler, SA Schools' Waylin September was the pick, with figures of 4/83 in 27 overs and Vincent Panazza with 2/119.
The Boland second innings totalled 250 all out, with Warren Hayward scoring 75 and Morne de Vries 57 no. Heinrich le Roux took 4/64 for Northerns and Aaron Khangiso 2/35 as they ensured that their team did not have to bat again.
* The provisional 24-man SA Under 19 squad (to be reduced in May) to tour England later this year, as well as the SA A squad to tour Zimbabwe later this month and the 2003 national Academy intake, will be named on Wednesday.
