Passing Away of Sir Paul Getty

The B.C.C.S.L. wishes to record with sadness the passing away of Sir Paul Getty internationally famed philanthropist and a great supporter of Sri Lankan cricket.

On our recent tours to England in 1998 and 2002, the tour opening game was traditionally played against Sir Paul Getty's Invitation XI at his picturesque ground in Wormsley, Buckinghamshire. On both occasions a donation of £ 10,000 was made to the B.C.C.S.L. These funds are used to offer cricket scholarships to talented young players who obtain experience in overseas playing conditions during the English cricket season. 2 young cricketers have been selected this year and will shortly be visiting England.
