Dinanath Ramnarine has been re-elected as President of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) for his second two-year term. Ramnarine is joined by Wavell Hinds, who was also retained as vice-president; Jimmy Adams, who was elected secretary and Ian Bradshaw as treasurer. Daren Ganga is the new assistant secretary and Sylvester Joseph was elected to the post of regional coordinator.
Ramnarine, 30, is once again locked in another battle with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) surrounding player contracts. Also WIPA's chief executive, Ramnarine was returned unopposed for a second two-year term and will remain in the forefront of players' issues with the regional authorities.
The WICB stated on Wednesday that if the retainer contracts - which Ramnarine is firmly in favour of - were not finalised by Friday April 21, "thereafter the team shall be selected based on those players who make themselves available". The ultimatum unsettled Ramnarine who insisted that he spoke with the players first, before finalising the new mandate.
