Rampant Netherlands sink Norway

The European Championship Division 1 continued at three venues around Dublin. Here is a round-up of the action from the second day

It won't carry much weight in the record books, but Netherlands inflicted a monstrous defeat on Norway after piling up an incredible 474 in their 50 overs at North County. Norway were then humbled for 104, as Netherlands registered a 370-run victory to bounce back from their shock loss to Italy. It was runs galore from the Dutch as Darren Reekers collected 196, adding 290 for the first wicket with Tim de Grooth. Reekers' century came off 58 balls while de Grooth fell four runs short of his century.

Unlike the opening day of matches, there were no surprises when Scotland beat Italy by six wickets at The Vineyard. Italy, who completed a shock eight-run win over Netherlands yesterday, slumped to 125 all out . They were in danger of being dismissed for under 100 when they were 87 for 9 until a last-wicket stand of 38 (the highest for the innings) between Vince Pennazza and Din Alaud gave them some respectability. Pennazza bagged Ryan Watson early in Scotland's chase but from then on the innings was a formality, with Scotland completing the job in 29 overs.

Ireland made it two wins out of two with a five-wicket success against Denmark at Rathmines. Captain William Porterfield hit a calm half-century, combining in a opening stand of 77 with Gary Wilson (32). There was a mini-wobble as three wickets went for 16, but Andrew White and Reinhardt Strydom ensured there was no major panic. Freddie Klokker had played a lone hand with 85 off 126 balls, and only one other Danish batsman reached double figures. Kevin O'Brien and Kyle McCallan did most of the damage as Ireland continue to look a tidy outfit.
