Schoolboys to benefit from Cricket Foundation scholarships

The Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation awarded six cricketing scholarships
to very talented schoolboy cricketers from the outstations.
These schoolboys were selected from the district coaching clinics
conducted by Anura Tennekoon through the SLCF.
Each scholarship awardee is entitled to Rs. 20,000 worth of cricket
equipment and clothing each year. They will also be brought to
Colombo once a month where specialised coaching and cricketing
know-how will be imparted to them by reputed Sri Lankan cricketers.
The SLCF will monitor the physical fitness levels of these awardees
and also provide food and vitamin supplements to them in order to
build them up for the future demands of the game.
Of the six awardees in 1997-98 Chamara Silva has been selected to the
one-day squad for Sri Lanka in the Aiwa Cup tri-nation series against
Australia and India, and Malinga Bandara was chosen to play in the
Test against New Zealand in 1998.
The schoolboys who received scholarships are: M.A.M. Aslam (Ratnapura
district), P.S. Aranagalla (Gampaha district), A.B. Wegodapola
(Kurunegala district), S.P. Arthanayake (Chilaw district), R.B.
Wijesinghe (Kandy district) and N. Parnavithana (Kegalle district).
