Sharjah to host Asia Cup in April 1995
+ Sharjah will host the next edition of Asia Cup Cricket
from April 5 to 13, 1995. This was decided at a meeting
of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held in London.
+ The participants are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the
previous winner of the ACC Trophy, Bangladesh. (NOTE:
ACC trophy is similar to the ICC trophy tournament and
the participants are non test playing asian countries)
+ The guarantee money for Ind, Pak and SL will be $120,000
and for Bangladesh will be $60,000. This has been raised
from the earlier amounts of $30,000 and $15,000 respectively.
+ TV rights and sponsorship details have been finalised.
The sponsorship deal is with International Management
Group (IMG) and the TV rights with Trans World International (TWI), a subsidiary of IMG.
+ Under the TV rights contract, TWI would also have to
televise matches of the ACC trophy. In case there is no
buyer for the TV signal of the ACC trophy, TWI would
also have to pay for the slot on TV.
+ Funds so generated are to be used to organise the ACC
trophy tournament, a substantial increase in the match
fees for the participating teams and to promote cricket
through coaching programs in non test playing asian
countries.
+ According to I.S.Bindra, apparently the ICC praised ACC
on its efforts and asked the member countries from other
continents to organise themselves.
