Sri Lanka Test cricketers to miss next English county season
None of the Sri Lanka Test cricketers though some of them have been already invited, will not be able play in the 1996 English county championship, due to a tight international calender.
Next year`s English summer season will overlap with Sri Lanka`s home series against Australia. Sri Lanka`s next Test cricket commitment at home will be Australia in July/August 1996. The Aussies who were last here at around the same period in 1992 will be involved in a series of three Tests and one-day internationals. This will not permit any of the Sri Lanka Test cricketers to undertake any contracts with English counties.
Australian Alex joins Sri Lanka team as new physio
Alex Kountouri joined the Sri Lanka team in Carins as the new hysiotherapist of the team on their tour of Australia and the World Cup tournament.
Kountouri is an Australian qualified physiotherapist who takes over from Dan Kiesler who has been serving in that position since the Singer World Series tournament in September 1994. The later too is now in Australia serving for the Pakistan team.
West Indian cricket chief to tour Sri Lanka
The West Indian cricket chief has conformed his proposed tour of Sri Lanka in early next year.
Sri Lanka Cricket Board President, Ana Punchihewa has invited the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in West Indies, Peter Short for a tour of Sri Lanka during the 1996 World Cup in the Indian sub continent. In the 1996 World Cup tournament staged in the Indian sub continent, Sri Lanka is scheduled to meet the West Indies on February 25 at Premadasa International Stadium.
