Kalpage fails to impress selectors
For Ruwan Kalpage, the Sri Lanka`A` team captain for the recent Interface four-nation tournament in Sharjah, the rains
hindered his attempts to catch the selectors` eyes for a recall
to the Sri Lanka team.
He had two knocks in the middle scoring two not out and 14 and
the 20 overs he sent down cost him 101 runs for two wickets.
Kaluperuma ranks Sri Lanka, India best teams at Interface
tourney
In his assessment of the recent Interface four-nation tournament in Sharjah, Sri Lanka `A` team cricket manager Lalith Kaluperuma, said that his team and India `A` were the best all-round
sides in the tournament and should have qualified. Rain
prevented the two best teams in the tournament from meeting in
the final.
"Hadn`t it been for the rains we could have easily qualified
for the final. Our boys were quite confident of beating Pakistan
`A, `` said Kaluperuma.
Former Air Force cricketer Dr.Cyril Ernest is keen to have the
Sri Lankan cricketers play in the USA and Canada where there is
an estimated 500,000 Lankan expatriates.
The Cricket Fund 2000, will also be introduced in Singapore
before a triangular one-day tournament in April. Sri Lanka`s
Caribbean visit, also in April may also be used by the Cricket
Board president to promote Cricket Fund 2000 in the West Coast
of USA and Canada. Sri Lanka will travel to the Caribbean direct
from Singapore where they are billed to participate in a one day
series organised by the Asian Cricket Council involving teams
from India and Pakistan.
