Marvan Atapattu gets 4th century and SSC set for innings win

SSC are set to beat NCC by an innings very early this morning in their Coca-Cola Division I cricket tournament match for the Saravanamuttu Trophy on the SSC turf at Maitland Place. NCC who were bundled out for 108 in their first turn, were struggling at 134 for 9-still 115 runs behind SSC`s 367.

Mavan Atapattu continued his run of success with the bat for SSC in the local club scene when he thumped his fourth century in the identical number of games where he has so far scored 685 runs. Yesterday, he made 133 with 15 boundaries in 311 minutes after being unbeaten on 57 on Friday. He had earlier got 122 vs Antonians, 214 not out vs Singha SC and 150 vs Bloomfield.

Atapattu and Hemantha Wickremaratne (80 with nine fours and a six) put on 152 runs for the fourth wicket in 160 minutes, while Atapattu and Suranjith Silva (34) who has turned out to be a useful all-rounder, put on 67 runs for the seventh wicket in only 59 minutes.

Ajith Weerakkody and Pradeep Hewage took three scalps each for NCC with Sanjeewa Weerasinghe chipping in with two wickets.

NCC who had to make 259 to avoid an innings defeat were sent reeling by medium-pacer Saman Dodanwela who finished with 5 for 50. It was Sanjeewa Warusamana (24) and opener Sanjeewa Weerasinghe (44 with five boundaries) who helped NCC with a 40- run partnership for the third wicket, while Weerasinghe and Pradeep Hewage (26) putting on another valuable 33 runs for the fifth wicket. NCC were 134 for 9 wickets at close.

NCC 108 in 38.1 overs (Russel Arnold 37, Sanjeewa Warusamana 20, P. Rajapakse 13, Sanjeewa Weerasinghe 20, Chaminda Boteju 4 for 38, Suranjith Silva 3 for 23) and 134 for 9 at close in 41 overs (Russel Arnold 15, Sanjeewa Weerasinghe 44, Sanjeewa Warusamana 24, Pradeep Hewage 26, Saman Dodanwela 5 for 50, Suresh Perera 2 for 28).
