SURREY will not take disciplinary action against Chris Lewis,
who appeared to throw two punches at a spectator at the end of
the AXA Life League game against Essex on Sunday.
Paul Sheldon, Surrey`s chief executive, said: "Chris was subjected to verbal and then physical and racial abuse. Following
a brief tussle, the man who attacked Chris was firmly ejected
from the ground.
"Surrey County Cricket Club thoroughly abhors the use of any
kind of racial abuse and will continue to work with stewards
and police to isolate future problems and protect staff and players from any future occurrences."
Adam Hollioake, the Surrey captain who witnessed the incident
at the Oval, said that he was relieved that no action would be
taken.
Hollioake said: "It was a good job. If they wanted any disciplining to come from me, it wouldn`t have happened, because I`m
a 100 per cent behind Chris over the matter."
