According to a report in the Daily News, the organisers believe such intercollegiate contests - among clubs dominated by Indian and Pakistani students - are the best way to build cricket's popularity in the United States.
Twenty20 is the sped-up version of the sport in which games last about three hours, more palatable to Americans than the oft-joked-about five-day format of international matches.
