Guyana 221 for 3 (Sarwan 97, Deonarine 80) v Jamaica
Scorecard
Ramnaresh Sarwan fell within touching distance of a century and Narsingh Deonarine helped himself to 80 not out as Guyana scored 221 for 3 on the first day of their seventh-round Carib Beer match against Jamaica at Berbice in Guyana. On day where more than an hour was lost to rain Sarwan (97) and Deonarine, who came together after the first two wickets had fallen with less than 50 on the board, added 157 for the third wicket. Their partnership gave Guyana a fighting chance of posting a big total and pushing for much-needed points in a bid to reach the final.
Leeward Islands 195 (Jacobs 70) v Barbados
Scorecard
Ridley Jacobs's fighting 70 helped Leeward Islands avert total disaster against Barbados in St Kitts. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first Leeward Islands were in immediate trouble, losing their first wicket before a run was on the board. From there on the bowlers took charge, reducing the Leewards to 118 for 8 before Jacobs stepped in with an invaluable contribution. He made 70 from No. 7, and ensured that his team approached respectability at 195 all out. Soon after the Leewards' innings ended rain came down and prevented any more play on the first day.
Windward Islands 292 for 7 (Murray 91) v Trinidad & Tobago
Scorecard
Junior Murray gave the Windward Islands a good chance of stretching Trinidad & Tobago in their Carib Beer match at the Guaracara Park at Pointe-a-Pierre in Trinidad. Richard Kelly picked up three wickets on a day where several batsmen made starts but failed to capitalise. Devon Smith made 43 at the top of the order, but it was Murray, the former West Indian wicketkeeper, who made the difference. He scored 91, and was only dismissed in the second-last over of the day, having taken his team to 292 for 7.
