Simon Helmot has stood down from his coaching roles with Victoria, although he will stay on as head coach of the Melbourne Renegades. Helmot has served as an assistant to Greg Shipperd with Victoria's Sheffield Shield team since 2008-09 and two years later was promoted to become head coach of the state's Ryobi Cup side.
Helmot steered the Bushrangers to the Ryobi Cup title in his first season in charge, but he has decided to expand his horizons internationally. Helmot was recently appointed coach of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean Premier League and is also an assistant with the Hyderabad Sunrisers in the IPL.
"The Bushrangers have provided me with so many opportunities and have become like family over the years," Helmot said. "It's a bittersweet time because I've given my all over the past seven years and I'll be leaving a place that holds so many fond memories, but I feel the grounding I've gained here has given me something to offer internationally, and that's exciting.
"Winning the one-day title in my first year was definitely a career highlight. Seeing players develop and go on and play for Australia, in all formats, has given me great satisfaction. As a coach, to have played a part in a player such as Chris Rogers resurrecting his career through consistency in training and preparation has also been a highlight."
