Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistan Twenty20 captain, has said that experienced Twenty20 players, Pakistan's past record in the World Twenty20, and familiarity with Sri Lankan conditions give his side confidence ahead of the upcoming world event.

"Winning the World Cup is always something special for the nation," Hafeez said after arrival in Colombo. "We have done it two times earlier and this time we've got a good chance and have a good team. We have also got good momentum after winning the [Twenty20 international] series against Australia [in the UAE] and that has boosted the morale of the team."

Pakistan were runners-up in the inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007, won the 2009 edition in England and were semi-finalists in West Indies in the 2010 event. "We have done a great job in the last three T20 tournaments," Hafeez said. "We have been very successful in the event. We really want to ensure that we should not be complacent.

"We have a good team with some of our players having played a lot of T20 cricket. Shahid Afridi is one those along with Yasir Arafat, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Nazir. We've got good specialists in the team and have a combination that can do really well in these conditions in the mega event."

Afridi is recovering from a finger injury that kept him out of the T20Is against Australia and Hafeez said he was looking forward to the allrounder's return. "He is one of the experienced lads in our side. He is a match-winner for us since the past 15 years. He has ample experience to come out and perform on any day. He is in good shape and feeling confident."

Pakistan are used to Sri Lankan conditions, having visited the country in June for three Tests, five ODIs and two T20Is. Several members of the side's World Twenty20 squad also played in the recent Sri Lanka Premier League.

"We have been allowed by the PCB to play in the SLPL mainly because they wanted us to get used to the conditions. Most of us have played here before and [also] the recent series win [against Australia] gives us the confidence that we can do something special."

Pakistan are in Group D in the World Twenty20 along with New Zealand and Bangladesh and will play their group matches in Pallekele. Hafeez said his attack has the variety to suit the conditions.

"We know that the Pallekele pitch is suited for fast bowlers and we are prepared to execute with the mix we have got. We have good seamers and spinners."

Pakistan will begin their campaign against New Zealand on September 23. Hafeez said they could not afford to take any team lightly. "Any team can make a difference even in one over. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe might not be very good Test sides but in T20s they have performed well. New Zealand are dangerous on any day and so are Bangladesh. I am wary of the pressure of the first round and the boys are ready for the challenge."

Hafeez insisted that fielding always creates a difference in this format. "T20 demands a lot of energy and we have seen the team doing well in fielding winning more matches," Hafeez said. "We are working very hard to bring more energy in the field. The boys have taken most of the catches in the recent series against Australia and we are looking forward to an improved show in the field."

***!!!!!*** The problem is with top 4 bastmen.. Kamran is a great player as an opener. But if hafeez, nasir and nazir will play up then his place is taken. And with afridi out of touch, he will not be able to take the burden alone in the end... he is one of the best new ball players in world cricket.. good luck to hafeez in sorting this issue out! P.S we have some good batsmen and if imran nazir fails, kamran can open or come one down and we can play with an extra bowler... Against SL, SA and IND we should not depend on spinners, in case we face either of them...

Posted by shoaib_pakistan on (September 15, 2012, 17:40 GMT)

I Think pakistans team should be.... Hafeez, Nazir, Jamshed, Shafiq, K Akmal, U Akmal, Razzaq, Afridi, Ajmal, Gul and either Raza or Tanvir depending on the pitch and conditions.....

This team will giv pakistan a good balance of possible 8 batsmen and 6 bowlers!! Razzaq and Gul as pacemen Hafeez, afridi, ajmal to squeeeze teams for runs.. Winning combination! Raza and tanvir shud be given equal opputunites in the seriies Who eva performs better shud b held on!!

No shoaib malik he is useless!! both with bowling and batting!! We only need 2 allrounders.. Afridi and Razzaq! Pakistan need to play Nazir this is cus if he gets going then no game can be lost! Sami, arafat, malik Hav no space in the team to win!!

Posted by kamranmalik7 on (September 15, 2012, 8:54 GMT)

I dont think that hard hitters like afridi, Razzaq should go top the order. We need to have stable openers who could not only survive first 8 overs but score runs at atleast 8 per over. And hafeez & nasir can do it. Asad shafiq should play at No. 3, then Kamran Akmal. Umar Akmal at No. 5 and Shoaib Malik at No. 6. Razaq and Afridi at 7 and 8. then Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal and Sohail Tanvir. I have noticed that Herath is bowling quite superbly, so we can go with our left armer Hassan Raza. Based upon the situation, Razzaq can be sent up the order. But playing 1st, it should be the same order.

The Tigers(Bangladesh) are surely hoping to face Pakistan. Not to mention, they have a score to settle. Pakistan would have to withstand the tigers' incursion to survive. Pakistan devoured the cat's lair and the abode in the Asia Cup Finals. They plundered the grail, the tigers were debilitated and pushed to the limits. Pakistan would be on the receiving end of the Tigers' wrath and I can certainly tell you this.... RETRIBUTION WILL BE ENTAILED! Mushfiq the leader of the pack, Shakib the General and Tamim, the leader of the cavalry has set the sail with the rest of the comrades. They will reach the Isle of Lanka and would countermand everything. Their eyes would be on the grail( The Trophy) and they are ready to fight for it. They never relinquish! Not to mention, I root Pakistan just like I root for the Aussies. But the Tigers are the heartbeats of 160 million Bangladeshis.. Anyhow, Good Luck to our adversaries!

well i think the team should be Imran Nazir, Shahid Afridi, Nasir Jamshed Hafeez, Razzak,Asad S, K Akmal, Umer Akmal, Shuaib Malik, GUL, Saeed Ajmal. The team manager can switch the top 3 around if they want as we have been noticing Afridi is not playing good in middle order they should put him as opener along with Imran nazir or Nasir Jamshed. next one down should be Hafeez as he usually get out as the ball is new so better to put him in 4th place, next one down should be Razzak then K Akmal than Asad S then U Akmal then Shuaib Malik, than GUll and saeed.

OR if i was incharge ill put the team like this

1. Imran Nazir 2. S Afridi 3. Nasir J 4. M Hafeez 5. K Akmal 6. Asad S 7. U Akmal 8. A Razzak 9. S Malik 10. Gul 11. Saeed Ajmal

by this line up you have batting power in every position up along with allrounders

this is the winning lineup for all formats sp T20

I feel the semi finalists will be: West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka and India. No chance for pak and Aussies this time.

Posted by   on (September 14, 2012, 14:07 GMT)

@ pakassasin whats wrong with you? we've got one of the best bowling attacks in the world and you're banking your hopes on ajmal only?? i think the teams pretty balanced and one of the favourites for the cup...

Posted by   on (September 14, 2012, 11:47 GMT)

Shoaib Malik is totally oult of form So better to give him rest for Some imp matches, and umar akmal as well, but he can be preformed well against any side So according to my Point of view the team Should be on these players, Nasir Jamshed, Imran Nazir then Muhammad Hafeez Asad Shafiq Kamran akmal umar akmal Shahid afridi abdul razzaq, Saeed Ajmal Sohail Tanvir and Umar gull.. Captain can Switch the Bowling Side according to the Conditions. 8 Can Bat Gud and we also have 6 Bowlers

Posted by sajjad.kernel on (September 14, 2012, 10:28 GMT)

we need an aggressive all rounder to replace umar akmal....umar akmal just swinging empty bats....shoaib malik should be dropped from all formats....

Posted by imrankhan76uk on (September 14, 2012, 10:12 GMT)

at this point, I would say we should stop crying about selection as it has been done... just hope and concentrate on getting best performances from our available resources. Form and mentality of K Akmal, Afridi, Razzak, Gul & Professor will be the key for us. If these guys can be in best form for 2 weeks then we will do really good.... I didnt mention Ajmal because he is going to perform anyway inshallah.... other players Malik,U Akmal, Nazir, Arfat, Tanveer etc..they are just there to make up 11 members on the day :))) Though I would love to see Nazir playing atleast one knock like he did in ICL final

totally satisfied with laatki. razzak must bat at no. 3 to show his potentials

@lokeshaa.....thank you for your in interest for Pakistani Team and i am agree with your point of view. I will INDA & PAKISTAN to play FINAL of this cup once again--- and i wish best team will lift the CUP

Dear Pakistani's please stop critising anymore to our TEAM, everything whatever happening is part of game. Now we should support them, wish them to play their best performance and win pride for our loving country PAKISTAN.

good one professor butwe need oud middle order umar akmal and malik to keep profaming

Posted by FaisalAsghar on (September 13, 2012, 22:34 GMT)

kamaran will drop a catch or miss a stumping when its needed most, sami will concede 100 runs without taking a wicket, nazir will only bat when the ball isnt moving, shoaib and arafat will be good at only one thing they do best, remain good for nothing average players. need i say more?

Posted by pakassasin on (September 13, 2012, 21:41 GMT)

Not happy wth team selection at all. There is no point in going with players like Imran nazir, Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal. Oh how can I forget Shoaib Malik aka Mr. politician. All of them are flops. Its time now that management should start giving chance to Hammad Azam as an all rounder and send Afridi at number 10 for batting as he is more of a bowler. I know there is big Imran Nazir fan following but sorry guys he is just a domestic product which he proved time and again and cant perform at international arena. Mr butterfinger is going to miss stumpings and his bro Umar akmal will crumble under pressure. Fast bowling is pathetic with no outstanding bowler like Asif and Amir. Only silver lining I can see is world class Ajmal in bowling and confidant Nasir Jamshed in batting. My pick for semifinals are Srilanka. India, Aus and NZ. I wish good luck to this Pak team and hope they prove me wrong and win the cup against all odds.

Posted by laatki on (September 13, 2012, 20:45 GMT)

pakistan need to have afridi and razzaq in game plans batting and bowling tactics . need to have umer akmal ,imran nazir, yasir arafat, in attacking field options.... slower tracks umer akmal should be topped , but flat tracks afridi and razzak... needs razzaq in pace bowling when there is slow track ,but for flat sohail tanweer shuold tackle that for india sami should be kept in playing 11 with razzaq and gul

Posted by piyo_thanda_jiyo_thanda on (September 13, 2012, 20:31 GMT)

well one look at pakistan's sub-standard batting line-up will wake up hafeez and bring him back down to earth. i think he is just being smart in press conference but knows that pakistani batsmen are just trash and will be exposed again.

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 18:36 GMT)

The most POSITIVE, CONFIDENT & BEST press conference ever by any Pakistani captain. Wish you all the best Hafeez & Co. for the upcoming big event.

Play Razzaq above Akmal? That sounds like a joke.

Mohammad Hafeez (c) Nasir amshed Kamran Akmal (wk) Asad Shafiq Umar Akmal Abdul Razzaq Shahid Afridi Yasir Arafat Sohail Tanvir Umar Gul Saeed Ajmal THIS SHOULD BE PLAYING 11 TO WIN

Posted by Cricket_Master_Mind on (September 13, 2012, 16:10 GMT)

Pakistan team looks very unbalance. Lacks of strong Middle order. lacks of quality fast bowler who can win them a game. like Asif Or Amir. They only had good spinners and Afridi and nothing special. true comments from pakistan. But pakistan team can win if lucks with them. Otherwise India, Austraila Srilanka are favorites

Posted by QingdaoXI on (September 13, 2012, 15:55 GMT)

Pakistan should open with Kamran Akmal and Mohd Hafeez, then it should followed by Nasir Jamshed, Umar Akmal, Asad Shafiq, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afredi,Sohail Tanveer, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan. In pallekele Pak needs 3 Pace bolwers so i will like to go with Gul, Juniad and Sohail with Saeed, Shahid and Hafeez in spin dept. I think all the hype about Rohit Sharma(INDIA) and Umar Akmal (PAK) will come to live and they will be rea hero's of this World cup. I predict India and Pakistan final and wishes for the success for both the team from very first match of tournament and it was also nice that both India and Pakistan lose there last t-20 matches becuase they will be grounded now, if they would have won they would have overconfident. But this looses has shown the team what they are lacking and improve before the tournament starts.

Umar Akmal Should Bat One Down

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 14:54 GMT)

There is no doubt that Pakistan has the potential to lift the trophy this time around. And to me, they have the best combination of power and aggression required to the format in all the three areas. With Saeed Ajaml proving that he has been a good student of Julian Fountain, is an edge because he has done quite an ordinary job in fielding prior to this series. Pakistan has the leading wicket takers of the format in the bowling arsenal, and the batsmen who are pretty good against spinners in particular (something considered as the biggest threat by the teams today, and a glory to have a good one in the side), and the batsmen doing a good job too. Imran Nazir and Jamshed have proven the ability to destruct a bowling attack with power & elegance in the recently concluded series against Ausies. If Afridi is able to get those 20-30 quick runs at the run rate he is famous for, its going to be an exciting batting attack. So in short, I believe, We have the potential to be the BEST. Best Luck

THE PROBLEM of both IND-PAK IS wrong team selection while pak is missing RANA NAVED, the best t-20 player , similarly we left behind at home the best players in shorter formet -YUSUF PATHAN& ROBIN UTHAPPA , love to see any one among our teams from this region wins this cup instead of outsiders .

Posted by cyberstudent on (September 13, 2012, 13:29 GMT)

if they continue to play RAZZAQ at number 7,8 then razzaq should better be rested. keep him above U Akmal for god sake. No use of giving him 10 balls to play in every match.

Posted by cyberstudent on (September 13, 2012, 13:23 GMT)

if pakistani openers play feralessly then pakistan will win this t20, else you will see collapse as usual wid pak team

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 12:51 GMT)

Pakistan have to keep their emotion in control. They have to play with their mind. Most of the team members are sloggers.Asad shafique,Nasir Jmamshed,Kamran Akmal and Hafiz should take the batting responsiblity.Razzaq,Umer Akmal ,Afridi and Imran Nazir should be used as a slogers. They should be utilize in last five hours. Our success depend upon our fast bowlers also. They should used slow ball, yorkers and bouncer cleverly. They should try to bowl as per their field and weakness of the batsman.Bowling and batting changes should as per situation in the match.Fielding is the key and running between the wicket should be given an importance. For God sake play for Pakistan with unity.Good luck our prayers are with you.

I think Pakistan Team & Batting Line Play like this against New Zealand. * Kamran Akmal, Imran Nazir, Muhammad Hafeez, Nasir Jamshed, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Yasir Arfat, Sohail Tanveer, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal. * Bowling * Sohail Tanveer, Muhammad Hafeez Umar Gul, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arfat, Saeed Ajmal

Those who are saying spin won't work should also notice there are not much grounds/pitches to use and once pitch gets old by playing a lot of matches on them it will get slow, so spin will be effective in later part of the tournament if not initially.

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 10:40 GMT)

I completely agree with musa441 that Pakistani fans should suport their team instead of taking flaws in their cricket.

Best Of Luck TEAM GREEN !!! make us proud once again :)

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (September 13, 2012, 9:46 GMT)

PLAY ASAD SHAFIQ AND OPEN WITH RAZZAQ. SPIN WON'T WORK. Pakistan strategy will backfire in SL. Wickets here offer no spin at all. Ajmal, Narine, Afridi all of them will be hammered around. They needed a better fast bowling attack than what they have. Here in SL batting is going to be the key and that department for Pakistan is very week. I will prefer Asad Shafiq to be playing instead of Shoaib Malik or Imran Nazir. They must play razzaq as an opner or one down.

Posted by Hujatullah on (September 13, 2012, 9:44 GMT)

1st of all best wishes to our team. I think that the our batting weak because we are giving a chance to players who are completely out of form. Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik , Asad Shafiq etc are all no doubt good batsman but currently if you see their avg in t20 it is very low as they are out of form. so we should give to players who are out of form so that they can fix thier problems. then our team will become match wining team.If Afridi, Umar akmal and asad do not restore their tempo then it will be difficult to get a reasonable total. ok Good luck to Green shirts

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 9:42 GMT)

in this series against australia pakistan won 3 matches out of 4 without shahid afridi so afridi shouldnt play

Posted by Ahmed.3069 on (September 13, 2012, 9:36 GMT)

i think 1.Imran Najir 2.Nasir Jamshed 3.Hafeez 4.Kamran 5.Malik 6.omar Akmal 7.Afridi 8.Razzak/Arafat 9Tanvirl 10.Ajmal perfect lineup and XI for Pakistan

Posted by Farrukh.91. on (September 13, 2012, 9:16 GMT)

Pakistan's biggest worrIES at the moment are the form of Afridi and Imran Nazir, also chasing a target!

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 8:37 GMT)

if pakistan want to win world cup, they need to improve their felding.and most importantly Afridi need to play his part for pakistan win...pakistan has great bowling lineup n they have gud batting. Who knows...PAkistan..can...upset....They..r..Great..Side..to..watch

Posted by musa441 on (September 13, 2012, 8:28 GMT)

well pakistan fans instead of bucking up their team are taking out flaws of the team come on show some patriotism ok they arent looking good to win the wc so what?? in 1992 the team which was sent was full of youngsters and inexperienced players exept for imran and miandad and wasim rest were all whom werent dependable, still what happened ?? they won. why?? becoz fans suported them not becoz their fans kept on taking out flaws out of them and degrading them more and more!! plz stop this and support ur team from heart dont act like this all the time !! if u cant then u dont deserve to be pakistani fans .

Posted by sam_screaming on (September 13, 2012, 8:15 GMT)

Whatever may be the experience, if you dont have runs on the board then you cant defend it even with the best bowling attack.... Currently Pakistan batting looks fragile... THey need to make atleast 150 consistently

Posted by shaantanu on (September 13, 2012, 7:53 GMT)

Among the subcontinent teams Pak and Sl have the best chance of lifting the cup.BD can spring a few surprises but winning it is still a distant dream.though i wish them luck.Afganistan is still very new but reaching the second round would be a huge achievement for them just like it would be for India if they manage to reach the semis.Being an Indian i dont have much hope from my team.India doesnt have the right personals for T20.India seems to be just making up the numbers this time.......However would love it if WI or NZ wins this one. They i suppose would be the crowds favourite while India i suppose would be the most hated team.

Posted by shaantanu on (September 13, 2012, 7:42 GMT)

India has the least chance of doing well in this tournament among the top teams.our bowling is too weak and in a 20 over game its really hard to come back once you are hammered.also the selectors have done a poor job of selecting the team....rohit sharma..huh why is he still there in the team.robin uthappa would have been a better choice.piyush chawla...haha.what a joke.why was he in the team in 2010 WC and why is he in the team now.thts srikkanths farewell joke on us.....i will put my bet on SL,Pak,WI and Aus reaching the semis.....however T20 is anybodys game on any given day....EXCEPT INDIAS.I hope i am proved wrong but i dont expect to be proved wrong.

Posted by Anchorage on (September 13, 2012, 7:34 GMT)

Hafeez should consider batting lower donw the order. He often complains of lower middle order collapse. I don't understand why they preferred Yasir Arafat over Junaid Khan. If Sami has to carry the drinks all the time then they should have selected Hammad Azam in his place.

Posted by xylofon on (September 13, 2012, 7:00 GMT)

Everyone here has opinions on what players should play and who shouldnt, this is fair and natural. But most people agree Pakistan has to adress the main weakness: batting. PCB however has had years and years of chance to treat the issue and it is still a complete mess. However Pakistan could perfrom well anyway based on individual talent, if they dont I hope it will be used to make the generational change which is an imminent issue anyway.

Posted by haseeb on (September 13, 2012, 6:56 GMT)

Well i dont see pakistan performing well in this tournament making it to last four would be a great acheivement .. for simple reasons firstly squad tat has been selected is not good enough ..most of them making a come back no confidence in them ..bowling line up is thin except ajmal ..no quality fast bowlers except umer gul ..and batting order needs to be changed and have to play asad shafiq all the time and give him the role to whenever he comes out to bat he should atleast stay till the 15th over no matter what the situation is ..razzak needs to be promoted up the order ..for sure

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 6:34 GMT)

Pakistan Team Needs to work on practicing catches, hitting the stumps on regular basis and fix each players weakness in batting for example Imran Nazir, Shahid Khan Afridi on short pitched bouncers and the whole team on slow short pitch bouncers that they need to wait for the ball and then hit it and any other slow ball too wait for it before they hit it and wait for the ball before the team tries grabbing the ball when catching and same wicket keeping problem with Kamran Akmal he forgets that he needs to wait for the ball before he catches it. wait for the ball to get into his gloves. That is why Kamran at times drops catches...

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 6:31 GMT)

i think Asad Shafiq should b playing just to make the batting line-up stable...

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 6:23 GMT)

What about ANWAR ALI. seen a video of him. Why not give him a chance in Umar Akmal / Shoaib Malik. If does well in batting/bowling keep him otherwise keep him like Akmals / Malik :)

Posted by khurramsch on (September 13, 2012, 6:17 GMT)

fix batting oders and problem misfiring players like nazir/malik/afridi/razak. so on papers good but reality no body knows. composition was fine vs aus. afridi coming back for raza hassan, sohail tanver 1st choice, but i would say too many faliures for malik & nazir can bring in asad for any 1 of them. will have 6 bowlers ajmal, gul, tanver, afridi, hafez, razak.

Posted by khurramsch on (September 13, 2012, 6:10 GMT)

on papers pak is strong side but recent form is doubtful. problems for pak, 1) batting order: jamshed, hafez, kamran, nazir all are openers, 2) imarn & malik again showed in aus series they are now just domestic/league players not international. 1 of them should give way to middle order batsmn. 3) question marks on razak & afridis batting, last many intl inings both have failed to make impact while batting. 4)need to use ajmal to attach, stop too much experimenting while bowling like 3rd t20. ajmal need support at other end.

Posted by khurramsch on (September 13, 2012, 6:07 GMT)

the schedule means there is no 2nd chance . you have to be best in each game not like aus series where 2 good & 1 bad game .

Posted by CricJanoon on (September 13, 2012, 6:07 GMT)

(my personal thoughts about the team): we have 4-Openers then 3-All-rounders then 4-Ballers in the team line-up. i never understand the correct composition for the team with these 4 openers because we need a proper middle order batsman who can hit well but know how to stay on the crease for complete 20-overs. if i am correct then we need Asad Shafeeq in the playing 11 and Omit one of the openers/all-rounders.

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 5:48 GMT)

it is a good balanced side .. if every prforms their duty perfectly at the right time (specially batsman) no one can stop pakistan to be champs.. Batsman need to make tem strong enough to chase good scores and senior players like afridi, hafeez, malik, nazir have to take responsibility....

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 5:30 GMT)

i prefer to play with minimum 3 fast bowling option otherwise they cant win only with spinners remember that.

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 5:10 GMT)

Everything' s going real well...maybe inclusion of junaid khan can be done. He's been doing real well.

Posted by Faridoon on (September 13, 2012, 5:00 GMT)

All the groups have 2 strong teams and one minnow. Among the minnows, Bangladesh have to rank the highest. We saw their batting firepower in the Asia Cup in Tamim, Shakib & Mushfiq. Pak, NZ and Bang are in the same group. I think this is the toughest group to be in.

There are some good things going for Pakistan with the new coaching staff. The fielding looks better, all the catches were taken in the T20s against Aus and even some run outs and several direct hits. The batting needs to get more consistent. We cannot afford to bat well only once in five innings.

Posted by   on (September 13, 2012, 4:56 GMT)

Pakistan team is as dangerous as India on any given day. What required of the team is consistency, especially in its battling.

The Team's bowling is superb, with a combination of experienced and intelligent speedsters and spinners. They have couple of all-rounders who can single-handedly change the course of a match. For a change, the Team's fielding too has improved.

Currently the team sounds on a high, especially after winning the series against Australia. But the same badly beaten Aussies gave a handful to Pakistanis in the third match of the same series that they had already lost 2-0.

But after watching the Australians maul Pakistanis in that match even my confidence in the Pakistan Team is a bit shaken. I watch most matches the Pakistanis are involved in. During the upcoming mega event I will be sitting finger-crossed till the last ball is bowled and the match is decided either way.

All teams have selected best possible players for their teams except pakistan. If pakistan chasing over 150 runs, pakistan batting line-up should be reverse order. I mean pakistan should send power hitters like abdul razzak, umar akmal, kamran akmal, afridi, sohail tanvir in front. if these power hitters face first 10 overs, they surely score 100 runs and rest of the players like hafeez, jamshed, shafiq will score 60 to 70 runs in remaining last 10 overs. If pakistan score 100 runs and lose 4 or 5 wickets in first 10 over, still pakistan can score 160 or more end of the 20 overs.

The great leader in the present team of Pakistan, a great motivator as well...read out his words fully motivational words for his out of form players which shows that he wants to carry a united team, may the team mate support in his aim of unity in the ground.

Posted by cisco420 on (September 13, 2012, 3:57 GMT)

Hammad Azam should play instead of Umer Akmal ( Hammad is a better and sensible batsman)

Asad Shafiq should play instead Shoaib Malik

Ahmed Shazad should play instead Imran Nazir

Junaid should play instead of Tanvir.

and I dont know what is Kamran Akmal doing in our team !!!

Posted by wakaPAK on (September 13, 2012, 3:45 GMT)

No junaid! No victory! it's that simple!

Posted by klapka on (September 13, 2012, 3:40 GMT)

I think Pakistan definitely have a good chance of winning this one. I think going by form alone, they're the most balanced asian team in this format and it also helps that Misbah is not captaining the side. I'm an Indian and would be rooting for Pak as my second choice team. Also, I was wondering why Azhar Mahmood does not play for Pak anymore? He's a very handy all-rounder and I would rate him one of the best players in T20. Could any Pak fan tell me the reason?

Posted by Aleem_Latif on (September 13, 2012, 2:48 GMT)

Pakistan cannot win until they have biggest Parchi players like Shoab Malik in the squad ... while PCB ignored players like Ahmed Shehzad, Shahzaib Hassan, Rana Navid, who are best fit for T20 format.

I am absolute startled and dismayed about PCB selecting Shoab Malik again and again, in-spite of his continuous failures in the last many years ...

Pls do not at least get Mailk and Sami in the playing eleven ... and replace Malik with Ahmed Shehzad and Sami with Rana Navid. Both Shehzad and Rana are the perfect fit for T20 format ...

lololol shezad chisti mann highest run getter in slpl lol....ahmed shazad didnt even got past 30 in his 5 or 6 inn in slpl and he got out on low class bowlerz who i have nvr hrd off....pls get ur facts right.

Posted by syed.r.karim on (September 13, 2012, 2:10 GMT)

@Shezad Chishti- You are absolutely right , Imran Nazir is a gifted player, He should not be given more chance, Pakistan already have Hafiz, Kamran Akmal and Nasir Jamshed in their team, who can open the innings. Ahamed Shezad or Hamad Azam could have been a better selection because both can bat high up the order, anyway Nazir's recent BPL performance give him a chance. And Very bad luck for young Umar Akmal , every day he lost the wicket playing a good short. He should be given more responsibility.

Honestly i do not see Pakistan doing any good if the batting fails. The last t20 against AUS could just be a glimpse of what is ahead. But mind you if the Aggressive-Pak team shows up in this series, it'll be a nightmare for other teams ! The pitches in Srilanka are very helpful for the seamers so we need to gear-up our quickies.Tanvir and gul may be the bowlers to watch out for.Ajmal might not be the deciding-factor in this cup. Nazir hopefully could open up his arms against Ban/NZ before the big games. Also this could probably be the last outing for Malik, razzak and afridi.

Posted by cric-doctor on (September 13, 2012, 0:27 GMT)

so tired listening about umar akmal how talented he is, i am waiting for him to show the real talent.he had an influence of afridi,to much hope but always under perform with bat, time is not that far when u going to see one more batsman turn into an specialist bowler just like afridi & hafeez.we need some good batsman, unfortunetly we dont have one.but bowlers are the one we can proved on.

Posted by Cpt.Meanster on (September 13, 2012, 0:16 GMT)

Hafeez is a weak link in Pakistan's line up. Isn't there a better guy to lead Pakistan ? Why not Afridi ?

Posted by pak78 on (September 13, 2012, 0:16 GMT)

bring bk rawalpindi express im sure he can last 4 ovs...lol any way good look team pakistan cant wait 4 the games to start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by subbass on (September 12, 2012, 23:49 GMT)

Always a danger team are Pakistan but that is a tough little group to be in with a slightly dodgy batting line-up. Bowling wise though they are as good as anyone really, especially in the conditions teh teams will be playing in.

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 23:10 GMT)

Good Luck Pakistan & Hafeez....

afridi is out of form he should not play in world t20

Posted by Atifkhan3489 on (September 12, 2012, 22:52 GMT)

No doubt pak have best spin bowling attack but they lack quality medium pacer like amir.they can win only if their bowling clicks and they are chasing a low total upto 130.pak should not strengthen their bating becoz their main weapon is bowling.bowlers have to perform wel if they want to win championship.

Posted by davidatlas999 on (September 12, 2012, 22:50 GMT)

good luck captain and please select afridi instead of malik and sami for raza hassan.the team loking very good then.playing eleven should be 1,hafeez 2,imran 3,nasir 4,kamran 5,u.akmal 6,razaq 7,afridi 8,tanvir/arfat 9,gul 10 sami 11,ajmal if they want go with one exra batsman then they can select shohaib malik instead of sami.

good luck pakistan jeet ka aoo and re tune team i think 1 k.akmal 2 imran nazir 3 n.jamshed 4 hafeez 5 uakmal 6 afridi 7 razzak 8 sohail t / junaid khan 9u.gul 10 saeed ajmal 11 sami chairs for pakistan and pray for win

Regret to disgree with "the professor" regarding 'experinced t20 players' and past records. IMO, past records/performances are history only and do not count. Older/experienced players are already proving a burdon. Upcoming tournament is going to be "fiercely competitive" affair and "all" the major teams hold valid chances. Even the Irish cannot be discounted. Logic points to 1) England 2) West Indies 3) South Africa - whereas heart firmly remains with Pakistan to repeat the dose !

Pakistan is a very good team, and Newzealand is also very good. In Case of Bangladesh I have to say, this team can go way beyond people's imagination, and they can also play very bad..... the first round is going to be really interesting.... I really can't say for sure which team are going to be eliminated...... but as a Bangladeshi I pray for my Bangladesh Team...... but I am waiting to see the fight among Imran Nazir / Brendon Mccullum / Tamim Iqbal...................... Shahid Afridi/ Shakib-AL-Hasan/ Daniel Vettori........Mohammad Ashraful/ Mohammad Hafeez/ Ross Taylor, Tim Southee/ Mashrafee Mortaza/ Junaed Khan....... but I think Pakistan has the advantage of havin Saeed Azmal...... He is going to play a very crucial role.... Also look out for Nasir/Ziaur Rahman........

Posted by arshad771 on (September 12, 2012, 21:27 GMT)

Yasir Arafat, sami and shoaib are the key players to loose the match!!!!!

Posted by Nadeem1976 on (September 12, 2012, 21:25 GMT)

Pakistan has well balanced side for T2020 once again and i am confident that we will give good competition to every team. Hope Afridi start blazing again.

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 21:22 GMT)

Pakistan's Biggest Mistake is to leave ahmed shehzad out. It saddens me because firstly he is just as good as imran nazir in the field and when it comes to batting he can bat. His recent success itself in the slpl should have given him a place (Highest Run Getter!) what planet are the pakistani selectors living on? I think they missed the trick with him. Anyhow Imran Nazir is a gifted player i just hope he can show some of his talents in this mega event as he did not against Australia. Pakistan are more than capable to win. One more thing i think in general terms Umar Akmal has to be handed more responsibility i.e. put him up the order as his talent is being wasted. Shezad...

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 21:18 GMT)

All the very best Pakistan.

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 19:51 GMT)

alot depends on these three clutch players like Razzaq/Nazir/Afridi , it has been a while where we have seen a serious run chasing knock from these guys. Akmal brothers too have to step up if any of these two from the list of five guys click it will be Pak moment else we cannot win all games on the basis of bowling - New entries are good as well Nasir Jamshed is a good find. I really dont know what Shoaib Malik is going to do to prove his case but I think this is his opportunity - so we got experience on our side but at the moment their forms in the previous tournaments is very questionable !

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 19:49 GMT)

Please Miandad :( Force Hafeez to bat low down the order and let shafiq to play instead of malik and i think sami should be in the team he cant play 50 over match but yeah can play T20 :)

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 19:34 GMT)

The Main worry for Pakistan Cricket Team is their batting. U never know and very fastly they lose quick wickets which puts alot of pressure. I hope that does't happen as we can't afford it against the world's top sides. In 2010 they didn't play very well and reached the semi-final after beating SA in super 8 and England winning the match against the Kiwis. They were then beaten by Aussies in the semi-final. Their Bowling is very good but sometimes it can be a worry. Overall Let's hope for the best and may the men in green win this Year's t20 World Cup.

Posted by Realfighters on (September 12, 2012, 18:47 GMT)

Except afghan, ireland and zimbabwe any team can beat anyteam here. This format is awsome

Posted by mohsinmalik20 on (September 12, 2012, 18:45 GMT)

Afridi is no more a match winner....he has lost his batting abilities may be due to age factor....same is the case with razzaq...his batting against aussies in last T20 was awful...

Posted by loke_cricfan on (September 12, 2012, 18:34 GMT)

Hi, I m an Indian. I think Pakistan having a great chance to lift the cup again. They having good bowling attack. Their weakness is their batting. They should promote Afridi up the order, if he fails also no problem, what is the use of keeping him down the order. If it is his day, he will wins the match on his own & they should fix what role Abdul Razaaq should play in t20 batting, I think Pakistan wasting the power hitters resources.
