Pakistan call off Bangladesh tour

Pakistan will not tour Bangladesh this year as per schedule; the PCB said the series has been postponed indefinitely by mutual consent. Pakistan was to play two Tests, three ODIs and a T20I series in Bangladesh in July and August.

"We had spoken about the possibility of hosting them [Bangladesh in Pakistan] this year," PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan told ESPNcricinfo. "Pakistan have now toured Bangladesh twice without them reciprocating, and we feel we cannot tour Bangladesh for the third straight time. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the tour, and will explore another window in the next year or so."

Bangladesh last toured Pakistan in 2007-08, for a five-ODI series. Since then, Pakistan have toured Bangladesh twice, in 2011-12 and 2015. The PCB had invited Bangladesh for a two-match T20I series this year, only for the BCB to rebuff the invitation.

On Pakistan's last visit to Bangladesh in 2015, the PCB had reportedly taken US$ 325,000 and justified it by saying the series had "technically" been Pakistan's home series. This year the BCB rejected all such proposals to share revenue, though it was open to playing at a neutral venue if necessary.

The PCB, however, was not keen on that option. It is understood the Pakistan board feels that hosting teams like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in the UAE - its adopted home - is not financially viable.

Relations between the Pakistan and Bangladesh boards have been sour in the past. During the Zaka Ashraf regime, the PCB had stopped communication with the BCB and barred its cricketers - who had already been auctioned to various teams - from featuring in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Bangladesh were the fourth team - after West Indies, Ireland and Sri Lanka - to refuse to travel to Pakistan in the last two years. Nevertheless, the PCB is looking to build on hosting an incident-free PSL final in Lahore in March by inviting a team of international cricketers to play a T20 series in September. However, even the PSL final - touted a success - was marred by Quetta Gladiators' entire foreign contingent deciding against travelling to Pakistan for the final.

In another development, members of the ICC board were briefed on the security situation in Pakistan. According to Shaharyar, Giles Clarke, the head of the ICC task force on Pakistan, confirmed that Lahore would host a World XI in September.

"We wanted to share the series between Lahore and Karachi but since the security assessment was focussed on Lahore only, it was decided to restrict the series to Lahore for now," Shaharyar said. "The presentation about the PSL final was well received and all members understand that the World XI tour will further pave the way for major international cricket in the country. They were supportive overall and we are looking forward to host some of the top players of the world."

Right now, PCB can host series with Bangladesh in Dubai. They can find a good number of Bangladeshi sponsors in TV and BD supporters in the field. Besides, the matches would be closely contested. Ultimate gainer will be PCB.

Not surprised. This is not the first time Pak cric administration twisted their committment. Twisting arm never strenghthen relationship. Poor diplomacy. This will not work.

When pakistan toured bangladesh last time pakistan was unsettled team in odi and t20. Now Pakistan can beat them eaisly but there are some issues which PCB knows better. And to all the BD fans who are saying BD rank better, you all just wait for champions trophy and then see who will rank better after it.

Honestly BD should try to play teams that are ranked above them or West indies becoz in test Wi is above BD and by winning against them BD could replace them.Against pak BD could have won tests this time I guess so there is BD loss as well in cancellation of tour but if BD could convince aus to play odi series as well then this cancellation is blessing in disguise for BD. BD is in good position at the moment actually. In odis they have 93 points so they have chance even to climb to no. 5 if they perform well in Ct. In test they are below pak&west indies but they are more settled team and superior than these two. Arrange tour with west indies...beat them and established urself as top 8 test team. Pak will reverse their decision I guess.Because it's not officially yet. They will come out and say everything is sorted. This step is just attention seeking steps and show to pakistani people they're taking stance..I bet tour will take place.

Meanwhile AUS has confirmed to tour BD. But Pakistan is still in 2000s. Update yourself Pakistanis. This is 2017, not 2000. Condolences towards Pakistan. Best of luck.

Good for Pakistan, their two star cricketers, Misbah and Younis are going to retire after the West Indies tour, they need time to come-off the shock and to recapitulate.

I like the way people are using the word "reciprocating" to make their comments seem "smart". And as for the tour, BD won't tour PAK as they have possibly best team in their history of cricket and there's no reason BCB would risk anything. Cricinfo, please publish.

I request to cricket fans please be patient on this recent decision. By blaming in this way is not the way to serve cricket. We can not give proper response on this decision until we come to know the actual scenario that compel Pakistan to take such decision. Definitely Bangladesh board is also well aware about the facts. Please hope for the best cricket is not dead across the globe, let's enjoy the game of cricket where there it is continue.

Who are Bangladesh? They just think they're good just cos they beat a few teams. It's good pcb cancelled series. Even if we did play, hassan ali would tear the bangladesh team apart with his bowling.
