Federal United seal tense win

ESPNcricinfo staff

Fifties from Awais Zia and Kamran Akmal and an unbeaten 33 from Ali Sarfraz helped Federal United chase down 317 and seal a last-ball, one-wicket win against Sindh Knights.

Federal United's openers, Akmal and Imran Farhat, had given the chase a solid start with a 99-run stand. Akmal built on that further with a second-wicket partnership of 55 alongside Zia before falling for 78 off 69 balls. Zia's 87 and his 86-run partnership with Umar Amin further strengthened the side's position, before quick wickets produced a wobble. Medium-pacer Sohail Khan chipped away at the line-up, picking up key wickets on his way to a match haul of 4 for 45.

Sarfraz held one end together and added a crucial 19 runs for the eighth wicket with Abdur Rehman, to help the side draw level with Knights' total of 316. Knights found themselves in a position to tie the game as Rehman and Umar Gul were dismissed in the space of two balls of the last over with the score at 316. However, Sarfraz hit the winning runs to give Federal United their first win of the tournament.

Earlier, fifties from Khalid Latif, Asad Shafiq and Fawad Alam had helped Knights post a strong 316 for 5. The Knights innings was jolted by the early wickets of Sharjeel Khan and Khurram Manzoor but Latif, Shafiq and Alam lent stability by constructing big partnerships. Latif and Shafiq shared a 116-run, third-wicket stand before Shafiq and Alam added 94 for the fourth wicket. Shafiq missed out on a century by two runs but Alam's swift innings - 90 not out off 58 balls - provided a late boost to Knights who scored 40 off the last 3.4 overs.

Had there been any other player in place of fawad alam i am sure he would have left cricket i mean such injustice to a talented player is highly unacceptable.he is e'm is better than younis misbah hafeez umar or any other player in pakistan. selectors plz tell me one reason why is he dropped,i mean what wrong has he done

i assure the selectors that if fawad alam selected for the upcoming world cup pakistan will win their first match against india he will be the man of the match if he is not being selected pakistan will lose the match. Fawad exclusion from the team was only because of Ramiz Raja, who during commentary in the internal one day matches regardless fawad perform well or not constantly criticizing over his batting technique and praising umer akmal, umer amin without any concrete reasons. Now same has been done by Chisti Mujahid during the domestic penta gular one day tournament where fawad has been remarkable he scored 62 and 90 not out in two consecutive matches with strike rate of above 130, but he trying to prove that Asad Shafique is better player than Fawad, this type of remarks are biased can harmful to a deserving player.

Not including Fawad Alam in the WC team will be injustice to him, to the team, and to the country. Alam is a fighter who believes in his abilities and stands up firmly when needed. BTW, Asad Shafiq is not an ODI player, he sould stick with test matches.

No doubt fawad alam is better than asad shafiq. We know that fawad is not stylish like asad and others players, but we don't need style we need players who can handle the situation when needed. Fawad would be a good option for aussies condition. But i don't think that he would be selected, becuase our management prefer stylish players rather than fighters players.

clearly they all are ignoring fawad alam who is thousand times better then misbah younus, Asad shafiq or any other middle order batsman in Pakistan. he can easily rotate the strike and can hit boundries where needed. biased PCB selectors and Waqar younus doesn't want to select Alam for this world cup.Malik and akmal are not consistent enough to be selected in this team but they will play because of this bad politics. Fawad alam is the most consistent performer both in domestic and in International cricket.

Here are the match statistics from Pentangular cup for two players Asad Shafique(batting 98 runs from 101 balls, Boweling 4 overs 33 runs o wkt ) Fawad Alam(batting 90 runs not out from 58 balls, Bowling 6 overs 38 runs 1 wkt) and here commentator chishti mujahid saying on TV during commentary "today's Asad's innings should be well enough to confirm his place in final 15 for world cup. Some may advocate that Fawad should be included but Asad is clearly the better". And then a very easy drop catch from Asad commentator one said "what a lazy piece of fielding" chishti said "good try asad it was a very difficult catch Asad did well get underneath it even south Africans and Australians drop catches". Than a six to Asad on a juicy full toss commentator 1 said "a very loose delivery" chishti once again said "it was a good bowel Asad get line right" than a pause and then said "he also got length right". I mean this all was in the live match.
