Fifties from Awais Zia and Kamran Akmal and an unbeaten 33 from Ali Sarfraz helped Federal United chase down 317 and seal a last-ball, one-wicket win against Sindh Knights.
Federal United's openers, Akmal and Imran Farhat, had given the chase a solid start with a 99-run stand. Akmal built on that further with a second-wicket partnership of 55 alongside Zia before falling for 78 off 69 balls. Zia's 87 and his 86-run partnership with Umar Amin further strengthened the side's position, before quick wickets produced a wobble. Medium-pacer Sohail Khan chipped away at the line-up, picking up key wickets on his way to a match haul of 4 for 45.
Sarfraz held one end together and added a crucial 19 runs for the eighth wicket with Abdur Rehman, to help the side draw level with Knights' total of 316. Knights found themselves in a position to tie the game as Rehman and Umar Gul were dismissed in the space of two balls of the last over with the score at 316. However, Sarfraz hit the winning runs to give Federal United their first win of the tournament.
Earlier, fifties from Khalid Latif, Asad Shafiq and Fawad Alam had helped Knights post a strong 316 for 5. The Knights innings was jolted by the early wickets of Sharjeel Khan and Khurram Manzoor but Latif, Shafiq and Alam lent stability by constructing big partnerships. Latif and Shafiq shared a 116-run, third-wicket stand before Shafiq and Alam added 94 for the fourth wicket. Shafiq missed out on a century by two runs but Alam's swift innings - 90 not out off 58 balls - provided a late boost to Knights who scored 40 off the last 3.4 overs.
