Glamorgan's on-loan seamer Andy Carter took four more wickets to take his tally to 12 from three games as the hosts closed day two in a strong position against Derbyshire in Cardiff.

Carter, the 26-year-old on loan from Nottinghamshire, has one more game of his spell left - against Kent at Canterbury next week - but with all the Trent Bridge seam bowlers free from injury he could be made available for more games with Glamorgan.

He instigated Derbyshire's collapse on Sunday, when they lost their last eight wickets for 73 having looked settled on 132 for 2.

The pitch appeared to be anything but seamer friendly before lunch but, after the ball was changed, and the quicker bowlers bent their backs, the wickets began to fall. There was plenty of deviation and lift for Carter and Michael Hogan while Mark Wallace claimed four victims behind the wicket, as Glamorgan dismissed the opposition in 63.1 overs. Hogan appeared a little rusty after his eight-week lay-off but bowled with much better rhythm during the afternoon.

Jacques Rudolph and James Kettleborough made a tentative start against Mark Footitt and Ben Cotton, who was playing his first game of the season because of injuries to Tony Palladino and Tom Taylor. Cotton had Rudolph dropped twice in his first spell - first at third slip before he had scored and later in the gully on 16.

Shiv Thakor then replaced Cotton, and in his third over trapped Rudolph after an opening partnership of 62. The former Leicestershire allrounder, who has a fast arm action and is probably quicker than he looks, struck again with the final ball of his fifth over when Kettleborough was undone by a ball that nipped back off the pitch.

Glamorgan's progress was then restricted by the Derbyshire seamers to under three runs an over, while there was also a most encouraging four-over spell that yielded just five runs form Derbyshire's 18-year-old leg spinner Matt Critchley, who is with the club's academy and already looks a fine prospect.

Bad light then ended play for the day with 16 overs remaining and Glamorgan 84 for 2 - a deficit of 121- but with 97 overs already lost to the weather and two more gloomy days forecast, a positive outcome to the game is unlikely.
