I'm afraid the match has been called off. It's simply too wet, so the series remains level at 0-0. England can thank their lucky stars, not to mention the Cardiff clouds; Pakistan completely outplayed them today and, if anything, it's a moral victory for them. Only questions remain for England - they simply don't know their best lineup, and are increasingly lacking in confidence with the bat. Join us on Saturday for the second one-dayer from Lord's, London, which we hope will be drier. Until then, it's goodnight.

21.30BST

Still no news folks. In the meantime, chance your arm (and play your shots) in our latest caption competition. Note: they still need to complete 20 overs to force a result which, at this stage, is looking unlikely. And they need to be back on the field within 20 minutes (at 21.50BST) otherwise there won't be enough time.

So it's all thoroughly wet out there and we really can't tell you any more just yet. We will, though, as soon as we know more. In the meantime, did you hear about the water bomb which stopped play in Blackpool, Lancashire today? Amuse yourselves on the site, and we'll have some updates for you shortly.

So the umpires are having a chat. The rain continues to be persistent and I'm not convinced it's fair for England to play - the conditions are so wet and slippery. And they're coming off - the rain is now really coming down in bucket-loads. That's the sensible decision to make. Heavy rain now

6.6
Gough to Hafeez, no run

excellent ball to finish the over, cutting the batsman in half

6.5
4
Gough to Hafeez, FOUR runs

shot! Smacked off the back foot behind square, in the air, and it torpedoes for four

Poor old Darren. He's going to go ballistic in a minute

6.4
4
Gough to Hafeez, FOUR runs

good bouncer from Gough, the batsman gets a top edge but it sails over the wicketkeeper and down for four

6.3
Gough to Hafeez, no run

driven (clunked) off the back foot

Still drizzling...it really is heavily drizzling, if that isn't a contradiction in terms

6.2
Gough to Hafeez, no run

too straight from Gough, worked to square leg but there's no run on offer

6.1
Gough to Hafeez, no run

driven without timing into the covers

end of over 68 runs
PAK: 38/1CRR: 6.33 RRR: 3.75
Younis Khan12 (12b 2x4)
Mohammad Hafeez10 (17b 1x4)
Stuart Broad 3-0-14-1
Darren Gough 3-0-20-0

Broad needs to learn, and quickly, that he can't simply race down the pitch when he raps a batsman on the pads. It's the umpire's decision, not his, to make

5.6
Broad to Younis, no run

rapped on the pad but it's not out

5.5
Broad to Younis, no run

outside off this time and left alone

5.4
4
Broad to Younis, FOUR runs

the bouncer - a useful one too, short and straight and Younis mis-hooks it, top edging it down to fine leg but Gough can't make the ground and it bobbles over the line for four

5.3
Broad to Younis, no run

and he absolutely flays this but straight to point. My word he gave that some humpty, and quite a bit of dumpty too

5.2
4
Broad to Younis, FOUR runs

too full, driving length and Younis simply drives through the line with class. Super shot

5.1
Broad to Younis, no run

oh, well bowled! Well left, too, by the batsman as it nips back and he shoulders arms

4.6
Gough to Hafeez, no run

edged but short of third slip this time. Gough isn't yet apoplectic but he's fairly fuming...like a Welsh dragon

4.5
2
Gough to Hafeez, 2 runs

short again but played down to third man for two this time

4.4
4
Gough to Hafeez, FOUR runs

a fraction too short and Hafeez plays a short-arm pull over midwicket! A brilliant shot, in the style of Michael Vaughan (if that helps you visualise it). Fine shot

4.3
Gough to Hafeez, no run

blocked out on the front foot

4.2
1
Gough to Younis, 1 run

lovely ball from Gough causing indecision from the batsman who plays this, with his bat away from his body, down to third man. Played it very well, actually

It's still drizzling out there

4.1
Gough to Younis, no run

full and straight, defended on the front foot
