Western Australia needed just two days to rout South Australia by an innings and 55 runs at Perth. Brett Dorey and Steve Magoffin took four wickets each as the Redbacks crumbled to 120, failing to make amends for their first-innings collapse.
On a pitch where bowlers from both sides called the shots, Warriors opener Chris Rogers showed good application and skill, scoring 110. Rogers and Adam Voges added 93 for the fifth wicket and at that stage, the Warriors appeared set for a huge lead. However, Rogers's dismissal sparked a collapse as the Warriors lost their last five wickets for just 34 runs, with Shaun Tait finishing with figures of 5 for 43. Justin Langer declared the innings just before tea with his side 175 ahead.
The Redbacks began disastrously in their reply, losing three quick wickets for just 12 runs. Magoffin started the rout, sending back Tom Plant in the penultimate over before tea, and then had Jason Borgas caught behind in the second ball of the final session. Matthew Elliot was Dorey's first victim, followed by Mark Cosgrove who was bowled through the gate for a duck.
Daniel Harris and Ben Cameron then resisted with a 42-run stand for the fifth wicket before Ben Edmondson struck, accounting for Harris. Cameron remained positive, scoring six boundaries but once Magoffin was brought back, the Redbacks' hopes of batting out the day diminished.
Cameron was caught behind for 36 and, three balls later, Ryan Harris fell for a duck, and an innings defeat inside two days looked imminent. Jason Gillespie and Shane Deitz resisted for 40 minutes, but Dorey struck again, sending back Deitz just ten minutes before the scheduled close of play. Dorey wrapped up the match with the wicket of Tait, caught by Aaron Heal after attempting a big hit. Magoffin was the more potent of the pair, conceding just 13 runs off as many overs.
