Warriors chase 324 after Broad century

Ryan Broad's third first-class century gave Queensland a strong advantage and set up an interesting final-day chase for Western Australia at the WACA. The Warriors were set 324 for victory and they went to stumps at 1 for 3 with Wes Robinson and the night-watchman Ben Edmondson both yet to score after Ashley Noffke snared Liam Davis for 2.

It was a disappointing end to a frustrating day for Western Australia. They had nobody to blame but themselves for letting Queensland post 321 after they put down a string of important chances in the field. The most costly miss came when Broad was on 27 and was grassed at slip by the Warriors captain Marcus North, who had also given Broad a reprieve late on the second day.

The two moments came back to haunt North as Broad gradually accumulated 118 from 224 balls and led a strong recovery from the Bulls, who had stumbled to 3 for 32. A 164-run partnership between Broad and Lee Carseldine put Queensland back on track after they lost Andrew Symonds for 1.

Broad eventually prodded a return catch to Adam Voges but the problems did not end there for Western Australia. Chris Hartley chipped in with an unbeaten 50 having been dropped on 0 by Theo Doropoulos, and Noffke went on to make a useful 40 after Paul Davis gave him a life on 13.

Brett Dorey did his best to keep the Warriors on task and picked up 4 for 75, including the key wicket of Symonds. But in the end Queensland determined their own fate and declared at 8 for 321, setting up a final day that could go either way.
