Peter Siddle ran through South Australia's tail and claimed 8 for 54 to make them follow-on on the third day in Adelaide. Siddle collected the last four wickets to wrap up South Australia for 175, before their top order put on an improved performance in the second innings. Despite scoring 237 for 4, South Australia still trail by 122 runs with a day to spare.

They started the day on 5 for 134 with debutant Jake Lehmann and Tim Ludeman on the pitch. They could add only 17 more before Lehmann was caught behind for 54. Siddle then took over and had the remaining batsmen caught, three of them by wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, as South Australia lost their last five wickets for 24 runs. It was Siddle's 17th five-for in first-class matches, and his best figures.

The hosts came out to bat again and put on a strong opening stand of 137 this time, with Kelvin Smith and Mark Cosgrove scoring fifties. They batted together for 36.4 overs before Fawad Ahmed trapped Smith lbw for 75. Less than ten overs later, Siddle came back and had Cosgrove leg before for 68, which featured 11 fours. South Australia stuttered again, with Callum Ferguson and Tom Copper falling for low scores to medium-pacer Marcus Stoinis. Travis Head and Lehmann steadied the innings again with an unbeaten stand of 57 for the fifth wicket but South Australia face a steep and tough task for the last day.
