Injured Jamshed out of Sri Lanka tour

Nasir Jamshed, the Pakistan opener, has been ruled out of next month's Sri Lanka tour after fracturing his left index finger, sidelining him for four to six weeks. He had been part of the ODI and Twenty20 squads for the Sri Lanka tour. The PCB hasn't named a replacement for Jamshed yet.

He sustained the injury from a club cricket match that earlier presumed a minor injury but was later revealed to be a fracture.

Jamshed, 22, had made a comeback to the Pakistan side during the Asia Cup, after an absence of nearly three years. He had a successful tournament, scoring a hundred in the crunch match against India.

"He is out of action due to his finger injury," Nadeem Sarwar, PCB GM media, told reporters on the first day of Pakistan's training camp at the Gaddafi Stadium. "He picked up the fracture during a club match last week and wasn't able to join the camp. His doctor has advised a four to six weeks rest and hence ruled out of the entire Sri Lanka series. There is no immediate replacement called to cover up him."

Injuries and illness have disrupted Jamshed's career previously as well. He debuted in 2008 and was beginning to establish himself in the side when he was laid low by a fever ahead of the ODI series against West Indies in Abu Dhabi. He was later selected for the one-dayers against Australia in 2009 but after the first ODI - his first match for Pakistan in more than nine months - he suffered a hamstring injury ruling him out of the rest of the series.

imran nazir can be good for t20I. But, he does not have the technical base established for ODIs. I dont know why you guys want him back so much. Bring him back for t20s only.

I really do believe hat the opening slot should be given to Ahmad Shahzad, he should be entitled to a descent run within the side, he has plenty of talent and gaining international exposure will refine his skills and improve him generally as a player. How on earth Imran farhat is still there is truely a miracle, he has been tried and tested over the years hence no success whatsoever and still the Pakistan board persist with him, its a shame! For sure Imran Nazir needs to be given an opportunity within the T20 side such a aggressive and talented player should really be harnessed and utilized by Pakistan but unfortunately they keep him on the sidelines. Lets just jope and pray that the best players for pakistan can be selecetd in the near future.

Imran Farhat is picked when he has nothing to show for it. Had the picks were based on merit, Ahmed Shehzad would have been ahead. While Imran Nazir could be an option, however, based on the recent performances, Ahmed Shehzad would still be a better option.

  • imtiaz on May 17, 2012, 12:26 GMT

@Raul786 Non other than he is Your current T20 Captain and so called Future ODI's Captain Professor Hafeez. His average is just 27 plus after 99 ODI'S international and 20.44 in T20's, if he deserved a Captain spot, then after so much improvisation why not Imran Nazir ? we don't say that select him in ODI's atleast select him in T20's. He is the world's most dangerous t20 batsman and crowed puller after Chris Gayle.
