Warnapura in running to head SLC

Former Sri Lanka captain Bandula Warnapura is understood to be in the running to be appointed as the next chief executive officer of Sri Lanka Cricket, replacing Ajit Jayasekara, whose term ends on March 31.

Warnapura, Sri Lanka's first Test captain, has served the board before, as the director of operations for eight years, before being appointed to his current role as development manager of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2008. SLC sources stated that he will be able to undertake the new post only from May 1.

He was interviewed, among others, by the SLC earlier this week. If he is selected, he will receive a monthly salary of 500,000 Sri Lankan rupees ($3,900), besides other perks.

An opening batsman and a medium-pace bowler during his playing days, Warnapura appeared in four Tests, including their inaugural match against England in 1982, and 12 ODIs. However, he was given a ban from Sri Lankan cricket after going on a rebel tour to South Africa in 1982-83.

He has had a fruitful post-retirement career, becoming a towering figure on the country's club circuit, and in 2008 he shared his vision for the betterment of Sri Lankan cricket and its administration after his tenure with the board was over. His elevation to the post of CEO could see him fulfilling those goals.

I personally think Bandula should have been CEO even before Duleep Mendis. However, internal politics kept him out of the reckoning for a long time. His forthright stance kept him out of many positions that he deserved. He is definitely not a yes man and hopefully will steer the infamous cricket board to a higher level with a lean and more effective management structure. The respective coaches for batting, bowling & fielding joining the bandwagon on tours must be addressed as they have not produced the desired results and also drains the cricket board of much needed funds.Their job should be to fine tune these elements at home as there is nothing much one can do on tour.Afterall,Sri Lanka won the World Cup only with a Manager,Coach & Physio on tour. The cricket itself was of a much higher standard than at present. As for the selectors, hopefully Sanath can focus on the cricket and refrain from politicising the committee.Murali & Vaas should also be considered along with Arjuna & Aravinda.

Bandula Warnapura will be better person at this time.Arjuna will be the best, but I don't like to see any active politicians involved with SLC.Jayasuriiya will be a puppet of the government. As seletors Jayantha Seneviratne,Mahesh Goonatilake,Hashan Thillakaratne,Gamini Wickramasinghe and Chaminda Mendis or Jayantha Amarasingha will be better to chosen as selectors.any member of curent selction panel and Nishantha Ranatunga must be overlooked for any post in SLC.Mr.Anura Tennekoon and Mr. Sidath Wettimuny will be better names for any post in SLC if they are willing to involve with our cricket.

Its great Bandula is taking up SLC. Good luck and hope a better future to cricket without politics. But problem is that Sanath in the other side for selection committee chair? Is he resigning from MP and taking over?

Certainly,Jayasuriya is not good at all this position eventhrough i am great fan of jayasuruya when cricket are concerned.Again politics is meddling to cricket.go ahead s,l cricket without politics

Warnapura is certainly a better choice than Jayasuriya. I am not sure if Jayasuriya should be included as a selector as he doen not carry a good reputation at all. The players will not have any confidence on such a person. The Best for this position would be Arjuna Ranatunga, but unfortunately once again Politics keeps him away .

this could be a better appoinment than Ajith Jayasekera. f he receive the support from every one he needed he is capable of making SLC a better one.but he need to take over his without any political agendas.wish him all the very best.
