Shoaib's blitz sinks Karachi Whites in Patron's Cup

KARACHI, March 6: Discarded Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik helped himself to a blistering unbeaten century as PIA chalked up their fifth straight victory in the NBP One-day Patron's Cup at National Stadium here on Thursday.

Shoaib struck 138 off only 107 balls to help PIA win by 10 wickets in the final Pool 'B' encounter in the unfinished opening partnership of 226 with Kamran Sajid in only 32.4 overs.

Man-of-the-Match Shoaib, who had earlier picked up two for 24, blasted 17 fours and six sixes. Kamran, the left-hander, remained undefeated with 76 to his name, including 12 boundaries.

Earlier, Karachi Whites were restricted to 222 for nine in their 50 overs. Iqbal Shaikh top-scored with a 76-ball 74. He hit five sixes and five fours.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Customs suffered another defeat when Lahore Blues upstaged them at UBL Sports Complex by three wickets.

Sohail Idrees was the star here as he made an unbeaten 94 off just 75 deliveries with the aid of five fours and one six. Opener Mohammad Saeed also batted well to score 67 off 76 balls with eight boundaries.

For Customs, left-hander Naseem Khan contributed 104 off 130 balls in a total of 264 for eight. He stroked six fours. Guest player Hasan Arshad had earlier lashed 11 fours in making 57.

In a match of academic interest, Bahawalpur achieved their first win in the competition with a four-wicket triumph over Dadu at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium.
