West Indies v Australia, 2011-12

At Gros Islet, St Lucia, March 23, 2012. West Indies won by 42 runs. Toss: Australia.

Some characteristically robust hitting by Pollard, who powered eight sixes in his 102 from 70 balls, was aided and abetted by Russell and Sammy as West Indies piled on 117 in their last ten overs. In his first match since the tour of India the previous December, Barath had provided a rousing start, hitting nine fours from 31 balls. Australia regained control, restricting the score to 146 for five in the 36th over, before Pollard and Russell ambushed them with a rapid stand of 94. Only Lee could respond in kind: his one-day best 59, from 48 balls, including five sixes, was some payback for the 72 he conceded from his ten overs. He was struck on the arm by a beamer from Roach (who immediately apologised) and, still simmering, cracked 24 from his next over. But by then it was too late, as Australia - now 2-1 down with one to play - had been fatally stalled by the miserly Narine.

Man of the Match: K. A. Pollard.
