India to play five ODIs in Zimbabwe

ESPNcricinfo staff

India will tour Zimbabwe for a series of five one-dayers starting July 24 and ending on August 3, the BCCI has confirmed. It will be India's next international assignment after their tri-series in the West Indies that concludes on July 11.

The first three one-dayers will be played in Harare, with the last two in Bulawayo. India had confirmed their tour following a BCCI working committee meeting earlier this month. The trip had earlier been put on hold, with the board citing the 'fatigue factor.' It is uncertain at this stage if the selectors will stick to a full-strength squad.

When India last went to Zimbabwe, in 2010, Suresh Raina captained a young side, and didn't make it to the final of the one-day tri-series.

I hope Dhoni will stay himself away from the selection to allow the young team to go and perform. Dinesh Karthik could do the wicket keeping and Saha or Parthiv could be his deputy. This also will help the selectors to see how Virat Kohli is performing under pressure when he is the captain. I do not anticipate major changes in the team and the same team more or less may continue. The only change will be a replacement for Dhoni.

This will be an interesting return for Fletcher , having been part of a very good side that competed with the best, that included Proctor, Davison, Jackman, Shepherd ,Dudleston ,Clift, Heron, Shah etc etc playing against sides that included Rice , Van der Bijl, Barlow, Pollocks P & G , Le Roux , young Lamb, Richards etc etc it will be hard not to want to go and view the Police Ground up the road where that all took place, hope he enjoys his return . The names mentioned are testament to this little nations cricket pedigree , sadly they are a long way from this standard and need to be reminded of their history and proudly play cricket for the nation , in an attempt to get things back to a respectable international standard

It would be a good idea to blood some allrounders like Rishi Dhawan, Parvez Rasool, and Jalaj Saxena (better not to go only by their IPL perfornances). And Unmukt Chand also deserves a further look- again- IPL failures should not matter. . Based on the IPL, I thought Sandeep Sharma and Sanju Samson were good enough to play at a higher level- if not against Zimbabwe, at least in the A teams. Rayudu in the middle order deserves a chance. Better to try out some new guys in this series.
