At the Launceston Racecourse (now the NTCA ground), at around eleven o'clock on 11 February 1851, William Henty bowled the first ball in Australian first-class cricket - to Duncan Cooper of Victoria. The ball was bowled underarm. Henty took match figures of 9-78, including 5-26, the second five-wicket haul in Australian first-class cricket. (Thomas Rose, June 2000)
