Wisden Overview
A medium-pace seamer and out-and-out No. 11, John Valentine was the opening bowler for Canada when they reached the final of the 1979 ICC Trophy, a success which gained them entry to the World Cup later that summer. But Canada were way out of their league and were soundly beaten in all three matches. In the first two games Valentine performed well, taking 9-3-18-1 against England and 7-2-20-1 against Pakistan. But against Australia his three overs cost 28.
