Rain, rain, etc. But Northants and Leicestershire did get in some play at Grace Road, where Kyle Coetzer's unbeaten 43 was the highlight for the visitors. There'll be reports from that match, as well as the four others that saw action, over on our county homepage. Check them out - we promise it'll be better than receiving a grubber off a length.
5.15pm: Jon Culley at Nottinghamshire v Worcestershire
After the attempt to make a 3.30 start was abandoned, the rain has not stopped and there will be no more play until tomorrow. Andrew Strauss has been across for a net in the indoor lanes in the Radcliffe Road stand. Having watched Hales and Lumb prosper, even against Steven Finn, the England captain might just fancy his chances of a score.

Was Worcestershire captain Daryl Mitchell right to gamble in pursuit of victory? He certainly thinks so.

The floodlights are on and there is a surprisingly large crowd at Hove.

There were big wins today for Yorkshire and Northamptonshire in Division Two, Leicestershire proving why they're many people's tip for the wooden spoon. Gloucestershire resisted very well to secure a draw at Derbyshire and Glamorgan and Essex's match ended in the draw that was always expected after bad weather.
Lancashire continued their poor start to the season, being comfortably beaten by Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford. Division One is where one game is still going on, Alan Gardner will be at Lord's the bring you the report on tomorrow's final day's play between Middlesex and Worcestershire.
All the reports from today's action on our county cricket homepage.

5.40pm: Father Christmas spotted
Sleet has stopped play at Scarborough - shortly after Colin Graves took on new powers as Yorkshire's full-time executive chairman. As Graves has bankrolled the club for years, Father Christmas had even arrived in style. watch out for reindeers in Huntriss Row.

This take on Ajmal Shahzad will delight some more than others. But we think it's a neat read.

5.25pm: Alex Winter at Glamorgan v Essex
Absolutely farcical is the only way to describe today. It hasn’t rained since midday but the light has been poor and clearly not improving – heavy cloud has surrounded the area with no wind to remove it. Glamorgan were happy to call things off for the day at 3.15pm when one inspection took place but Essex wanted to hold on.
We were then told 4.20pm was a possible start time because the ground had dried up, even though the light hadn’t improved a jot. The players came out and warmed up for half an hour but the umpires retreated to the pavilion and the players eventually followed in drabs as a warm up became football games just to get a run-a-round.
Mercifully play has at long, long last been abandoned.

Hampshire lost three early wickets against Northamptonshire (Andrew Hall with 2 for 9) to close 176 runs behind, but Derbyshire batted throughout day one to reach 362 for 9. James Fuller was the pick of the Gloucestershire bowlers with 3 for 64. In the MCCU matches, Leeds/Bradford have built a 208-run lead over Sussex with a day to play, while Oxford were 50 for 2 at stumps in response to Kent's 251 for 8 declared. For reports from our writers around the country, head over to the county homepage - and be sure to return for more news and views tomorrow.
5.20pm: Alan Gardner on the rest of the action
Derbyshire have reached 300 with six wickets down against Gloucestershire, thanks in part to Wayne Madsen’s 101 – the first innings in which he has reached 25 this season. Dan Redfern also added a half-century, before falling victim to Kane Williamson on the New Zealander’s return to play for the county coached by his compatriot John Bracewell. Hampshire, meanwhile, have successfully pegged back Northamptonshire at Wantage Road, the impressive young left-armer Chris Wood taking 4 for 52 as the hosts slipped from 150 for 3 to 218 all out after being inserted.

It's been another sodden squib of a day around the country. Other than the games mentioned in the blog, there were just 10 overs played at Hampshire's fixture with Leicestershire (Michael Carberry moved on to 84 not out); both Essex-Northants and Gloucs-Glam suffered further abandonments. Anyway, for what action did take place, you can find reports on our county side. Join us if you dare tomorrow, when we may be reporting on water skiing rather than cricket ...

Once again the rain swept away much of the day's play - but they did get started late on in Chelmsford, and Essex fans may wish they hadn't, as the hosts slipped to 54 for 6. Mark Pettini, the only man to get into double figures, was unbeaten on 16 at the close. Further south, Hampshire made a solid start to their reply against Leicestershire, reaching 181 for 4 at stumps, just 53 in arrears - Michael Carberry marking his recall to the Lions squad with 73 not out after Liam Dawson had completed a five-wicket haul earlier in the day.
