Gautam Gambhir hit a furious ton to help Delhi defeat Baroda and enter the final of the Ranji Trophy Super league. His 136-run opening stand with Shikar Dhawan allowed Delhi to overcome the 271-run target without breaking a sweat.
The victory came with an unexpected ease. The target could have proved tricky, especially considering they had lost the services of their regular opener Aakash Chopra - on drips in the hospital after a sudden bout of nausea and giddiness - but Gambhir and Dhawan attacked from the start to put Delhi on a cruise mode.

Rain rules out play on day two

No play was possible on the second day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final between Habib Bank Limited and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited due to rain and subsequently a wet outfield

No play was possible on the second day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final between Habib Bank Limited (HBL) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) due to rain and subsequently a wet outfield.
A total of 25 overs were lost yesterday due to bad light and as players took the field for warm-up, heavy rain lashed the entire city forcing the square to be covered. Although the covers did come off post-lunch, rain water had seeped through onto the pitch and the square forcing the umpires to call off play at 3.15pm local time.
Keeping the inclement weather forecast in mind, the Pakistan board has already kept a reserve day in order to obtain a result providing a winner is not declared on first-innings lead over the span of five days.

Brian Lara blasted an unbeaten 53 off 27 balls, with six fours and three sixes, to take Trinidad to a nine-wicket win over Guyana at the Queen's Park Oval.
Lara's arrival at the crease was preceded by a 106-run stand for the first wicket between Lendl Simmons and Adrian Barath, as Trinidad chased 183 off 47 overs. The duo oversaw two rain interruptions in the post-lunch session before Simmons' 62-run knock ended when he was trapped by left-arm spinner Veerasamy Rampaul.
Barath remained unbeaten on 57 when Trinidad claimed their victory, which was hastened by Lara's aggressive approach. Lara went on to claim the Man-of-the-Match award for his knocks of 123 and 53.

Gujarat, overnight on 140 for 2, doubled that total on the third day to take a first-innings lead of 20 against Railways in final of the Ranji Plate League at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. In reply, Railways were at 14 for 1, still trailing by six runs.
Gujarat's lead was due in large part to Nilesh Modi, who added 41 to his overnight 66. However, they were unable to build on that as their middle order - barring Hem Joshipura, who made 36 - failed to chip in with substantial scores.
Niraj Patel and Modi added 45 for the fourth wicket after Mohnish Parmar fell early in the day. After Niraj fell, Modi went on score his seventh first-class hundred before he was snared by Harvinder Singh, the former India fast bowler. Modi's 107 came off 317 deliveries, with 18 fours.

Solanki anchored the innings with a fine 96 but it was Yusuf Pathan who helped Baroda seize the initiative with an unbeaten 61-ball 86. Delhi, though, removed Solanki in the last over of the day to ensure that they remained in the hunt.
Baroda had struggled in the first session, losing three wickets but Solanki featured in two partnerships that swung the momentum. He was involved in a 79-run stand with Shatrunjay Gaekwad before adding a further 118 runs with Yusuf, who turned on the heat in the last session.

Opener Dale Richards blasted 80 off 93 balls with 11 fours to lead Barbados to a thumping nine-wicket win over Windward Islands in Kingston. Richards, who capitalised on some wayward bowling to bring up his half-century off 55 balls, added 111 runs for the first wicket with Jason Haynes, before Haynes and Dwayne Smith finished off the job. Earlier, Windward, who resumed on 58 for 3, with a lead of only two runs, lost overnight batsmen Andre Fletcher and Liam Sebastian for 14 and 18 respectively as they slumped to 87 for 5. Donwell Hector looked assured before he was run out for 14, the second time that he was dismissed in such a manner in his debut match. Lindon James, the wicketkeeper-batsman, took Windward from 104 for 6 to 190 with an unbeaten 56. Smith then took the last two wickets to finish with 3 for 41. Ryan Hinds was named Man of the Match for scoring 95 in Barbados' first innings as well as claiming three wickets with his left-arm spin.
Guyana 128 for 4 (Deonarine 46, Sarwan 31*, Dolwin 28, Emrit 2-35) and 334 lead Trinidad 401 (Lara 123, Pollard 85, Mohammed 4-78) by 61 runs

A captain's knock by Mohammad Hafeez and a fine counter-attacking innings by Misbah-ul-Haq ensured Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) finished a reduced first day on 203 for 4, against Habib Bank (HBL) in the final of the 50th Quaid-e-Azam trophy in Karachi. It was an effective recovery, having been 35 for 2 within the first hour.
As many as 25 overs were lost post-lunch to bad light, as unusually overcast conditions hung over the National Stadium. No doubt, those very conditions had prompted Shahid Afridi, HBL's captain, to field on winning the toss.

Seamers bowl Uttar Pradesh to final

Uttar Pradesh picked off the remaining three Saurashtra wickets to win by 48 runs and book their place in the Ranji Trophy final

For 33 tense minutes, Uttar Pradesh struggled for a wicket - grassing a catch and missing two run-out opportunities - before grabbing the three needed to beat Saurashtra, by 48 runs, and reach the Ranji Trophy final for the second time in three years.
The day started with Saurashtra needing 69 runs with three wickets in hand, but they could only manage 20 in 12.5 overs. Sudeep Tyagi and Praveen Kumar bowled unchanged, not giving away any free runs, never letting Saurashtra feel they were within striking distance. Praveen Kumar took the first two wickets, while Tyagi splayed Shitanshu Kotak's stumps to finish the match and trigger frantic celebrations.
Two shies at the stumps in the first few overs would have found Kotak short had they hit. And when Tyagi induced an edge, Ravikant Shukla dropped a regulation catch at third slip. However, with the runs not flowing for Saurashtra, UP kept persisting and Praveen Kumar finally got an edge off Kamlesh Makvana, which was caught low in front of first slip by wicketkeeper Amir Khan. Makvana had battled for close to an hour scoring 13 and adding 40 for the eighth wicket with Kotak.

India Under-19 piped their Bangladeshi counterparts by one run in a rain-affected game in Pretoria. The match was the last of the round-robin stage of the triangular tournament - also featuring hosts South Africa - and both India and Bangladesh had already made their way to the final.
Chasing 220, India were at 161 for 5 after 39.3 overs, before no further play was possible due to rain. According to the revised scores tabulated by the D/L method, India were ahead of the required target by one run, thus maintaining their unbeaten run in the tournament.
For India, without Tanmay Srivastava, who had starred with his all-round performances in the tournament, Manish Pandey made 51, but it was a brisk 44 off 47 balls from Virat Kohli, the captain, and a cameo of 18 from 16 by D Shivkumar that sealed the win. Their unbroken 44-run stand from six overs proved decisive in the final result.

A Zimbabwe XI secured a comprehensive win over a South African Composite XI at Kimberley, battling back from a first-innings deficit to win by 134 runs on the final afternoon.
Zimbabwe slid to 111 for 6 on the first day before Keith Dabengwa's 79 steered them to a respectable 256. A brace of 80s from Adrian MacLaren and Petrus Koortzen enabled the home side to take a lead of 97, and it would have been more but for a marathon spell from Prosper Utseya, who finished with 5 for 70, on the second afternoon.
Resuming on 42 for 2, still 55 in arrears, Zimbabwe lost Hamilton Mazakadza early on the third day, but then Tatenda Taibi, on a pair, and Sean Williams stole the show with a fourth-wicket stand of 184. The irony was that the selection of Williams, who completed his second first-class hundred, was opposed by some hardliners among the Zimbabwe selectors. When the two of them went, Zimbabwe were still in trouble on 270 for 6 before Elton Chigumbura and Utseya cut loose against a tiring attack.
