One of Nairobi's top grounds with a lovely outfield and good pitches, the club received international status from the ICC in January 2007, shortly before the start of the World Cricket League. Benefiting from considerable investment from Naushad Merali, a local businessman, the venue is possibly the most English in terms of conditions, favouring seamers. The club is run by the Ithna-Asharis community, a sect of Islam, and so is dry. The religious link led to its ODI debut being brought forward by 24 hours when it turned out that it clashed with the Islamic holiday commemorating the Day of Ashura.
