White Conduit Fields lay near Pentonville Road and took its name from the nearby White Conduit House. Cricket had been played there since the early 1700s but it had proved less than popular as it was not enclosed and so play was often disrupted as rows broke out with locals using the land for other recreational purposes. It was unused for many years as the Artillery Ground grew in prominence, undergoing a brief revival when the White Conduit Club started in the 1780s. But the same problems returned and in 1787 the club moved to Thomas Lord's new ground and assumed the name of the Mary-le-Bone Cricket Club and White Conduit Fields was abandoned for good.
