- Uttarakhand's Akash Madhwal was a net bowler for Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the second leg of IPL 2021, but didn't get to be a part of the main squad. He was then signed up by Mumbai Indians (MI) midway into IPL 2022 as a replacement for the injured Suryakumar Yadav.

- Madhwal was made Uttarakhand's captain for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy ahead of the 2022-23 domestic season. He got his chance in the IPL in 2023, when MI were missing the injured Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer.

- Madhwal bagged 14 wickets in eight matches in IPL 2023. The highlight of that run was a match-winning, record haul of 5 for 5 in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants. That was the first five-wicket haul by a bowler in an IPL playoffs or knockout match, as Madhwal also joined Anil Kumble in having the best figures by an Indian bowler in IPL history.

- He also played five matches for MI in 2024, but managed only five wickets at an average of 41. MI released him ahead of the auction for the 2025 season, where Madhwal was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.2 crore.
