Sachini Nisansala

Left-arm spinner Sachini Nisansala first grabbed headlines in early 2017 for picking up ten wickets in an innings in an inter-district match as a 15-year-old. She returned 10 wickets for 15 runs in the second innings and finished with match figures of 17 for 33 in Galle District's win over Hambantota District. Starting from 2016-17, when she first played domestic cricket in Sri Lanka, Nisansala has been among the wickets regularly. But in 2021, she picked up eight wickets in the Women's Division One Tournament, which paved way for greater success.

With Sri Lanka Cricket not arranging any tours over the year after the Covid-19 pandemic, those performances helped Nisansala receive a maiden call-up to the national side for the Commonwealth Games Qualifier. Against Scotland on T20I debut, she returned two wickets - including that of captain Kathryn Bryce - which prompted Chamari Athapaththu to share her Player-of-the-Match award with Nisansala.

In only her third ODI, Nisansala picked up 5 for 28 against the touring West Indies in Hambantota to help Sri Lanka register a 3-0 clean sweep. She also had a telling effect in Sri Lanka's maiden Women's Asia Cup win. She first dismissed India captain Harmanpreet Kaur with a ball that gripped, and then fired a flat throw halfway from the deep-midwicket boundary to run the on-song Jemimah Rodrigues out and turn the tide.
