Scott Huey could claim with justification to be one of Ireland's best cricketers, a slow left-armer who used flight and pace to great effect. He made his international debut in 1951, and in the following year's North v South Trial he cemented his place with 6 for 21 and ten wickets in the game altogether. In 1954 he took 6 for 49 and a career-best 8 for 48 against MCC, and nine years later his 6 for 13 stopped Scotland in their tracks and allowed Ireland to secure a relatively easy win. He topped that with 5 for 68 against the touring New Zealanders in 1965. In 36 matches for Ireland he took 112 wickets at 20.66, a marginally worse return than in first-class games. A talented international badminton player, he was also capped for Ulster at hockey. He continued his links with cricket as a regional selector.
