Sujeewa Kamalasuriya toured Australia with the Sri Lanka Under-19 side in 1983-84 as a lower-order batsman and offspinner, but despite a good start with 3 for 58 against Queensland he failed to do much else, although he played in two Youth Tests. He played little senior cricket, aside from one appearance against Gloucestershire in 1986-87 as an allrounder. By the time he turned out for Tamil Union in 1988-89 he had become a specialist top-order batsman. He drowned in the tsumai which hit Sri Lanka in December 2004.
