Jasprit Bumrah traded his bowling chops for potato chops - near enough - for SPORTbible's Snack Wars, pitting British munchies against Indian crunchies… and the results will shock you, somewhat.
First up it's Scampi fries versus the Indian staple bhujia. It looks like it might be a clean sweep for team bhujia as Bumrah scoffs at the size of the fries packet: "We Indians don't believe in small portions," he laughs. But the Scampi fries land like a Bumrah yorker to take this round on their cream-and-onion flavour - England wins this round.
Next up: pickled walnuts versus pakoras. Bumrah chomps into the walnut with the blind confidence of a fast bowler on a green top, then reconsiders his decision mid-bite: "What do you eat this with?" But with the unpredictability of each game of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he awards the point to the pickled peculiarity, charmed by its oddity despite his screaming taste-buds.
When fried chakli faces off against baked twiglets, there's no contest - chakli wins by a mile, maybe because "this is what my wife loves". Chicken biryani trounces fish and chips, and the final showdown - Greggs' cheese and onion puff vs a trusty veggie samosa - ends in a predictable but satisfying victory for the desi classic, though one wonders how the sausage roll might have fared. In the end, unlike India's drawn series against England, this is a 3-2 victory for Indian snacks, and Bumrah didn't have to sit out any of them.
