stumps go splat again, and Bell, the leading wicket-taker in the Women's Hundred, finishes off the job in style! This is another change-up, bowled into the track on middle and off. The ball just does not arrive and Taylor plays several strokes in her head before failing with her actual attempt. Middle and off stump rattled, and the Brave have more wins in two games this year than they did in the entirety of last season!
Brave vs Phoenix, 7th Match at Southampton, Women's Hundred, Aug 10 2025 - Match Result
Brave won by 15 runs
1:50pm That will be all from us for this game. But lots of Hundred action is lined up today, both in the men's and the women's competitions. The men's game can be followed here, while the women's match can be found here. Do join us for both of those contests, and until next time, from Raghav, Sudeep and myself (Shashwat), this is goodbye!
Sophie Devine, Player of the Match: Really pleased (about the result). She (Wyatt-Hodge) was outstanding. The way she set up the game, it was trickier than she made it look. Great game for us and nice to do it in front of the home crowd. Always nice to perform against teams you have previously played for. Every game is on the line (in the comp) and you have to be good. We have to keep sharp and keep learning. Have not played a lot of cricket over the last few months, was probably swinging like a rusty gate. Have played enough cricket to know that it (the rhythm) will come (back). When you have someone like her (Wyatt-Hodge), it makes easier. If I can contribute in any way, that is what I am here for.
1:42pm The Southern Brave will be pleased with that effort. It felt that they left a few runs out there, but they returned with vigour with the ball, rocking the Phoenix early, which included the wickets of Lamb and Voll, both of whom had done well in the Phoenix's first game. Perry and Jones then performed a rear-guard action, with Kalis taking over post Jones' dismissal, and that left the Phoenix with 45 to get off 30 balls. Perry, though, perished soon after, and despite Kalis' clean ball-striking, they could not muster enough to have a real tilt at the score.
A lot of that was down to the Southern Brave's bowling. Corteen-Coleman was brilliant, as was Devine, especially towards the end. Bell also regained her composure after a ten-run first set and all of those factors, which led to constant wicket-taking more or less, has now given the Brave their second win in as many games.
Two legal balls, and the Southern Brave will be home
length ball wide outside off. Baker goes chasing after it and only swishes at thin air
Baker is the last batter in
pops it straight up, and taken at short fine leg! Kalis falls and with that, the chase probably does too! Off-pace on a full length outside off. Kalis shimmies across, trying the lap again. And even though she makes contact this time, the contact is not enough. No pace to work with and Corteen-Coleman snares the chance to extinguish the Phoenix's hopes!
Over to Kalis. Four boundaries would do it, but that is easier said than done...
excellent yorker, tailing back into off stump. Might have been a slower ball too. Taylor digs it out to the bowler's left and gets called through for the single
Bell to close out the game for the Brave. She has plenty of runs in the bank. Taylor on strike
length on middle and leg. Kalis advances and heaves it towards long on. They take the single, which means Kalis is now off strike with Phoenix needing 17 off 5
zipped in full and wide, and Kalis admonishes herself after missing the scoop. That is the second time she has tried it, and the second time she has failed to pull it off
oh my word - that is a shot and a half! Full on middle and leg. Kalis backs away and opens up the area she wants. Gets her hands through the ball wonderfully and crunches it over extra cover!
length outside off. Kalis moves across her stumps, trying to scoop it away but fails to lay bat on ball. Had she made contact, that might have been four, with fine leg in the ring!
22 off 9. All on Kalis now from a Phoenix POV
Schutt has been run out, but Kalis is back on strike! Angled in on a length on middle and leg. Schutt, having advanced, swings at it and misses. The ball rolls off the pad towards Devine, but Kalis does not care. She urges her partner to run and Schutt has to sacrifice her wicket, with Devine hitting bulls-eye at the bowler's head!
22 off 10, and still the Southern Brave's game to lose. But the Phoenix are not giving it up just yet. Devine to bowl the penultimate set
into the blockhole wide outside off. Kalis cannot get under it and she cannot squeeze it past the bowler either. Vital dot ball that also keeps Kalis off strike at the change of ends!
short and wide outside off. Schutt waits on it and cuts it towards backward point, where Tryon dives to her left and ensures it is just a single
23 off 12 now
Schutt joins in on the fun now! Fullish outside off. Schutt slaloms down the track and caresses it beautifully over mid off for four!
dropped by Bell - oh dear! Hung up on a length wide outside off, perhaps after seeing the batter backing away early. Kalis goes after it anyway and slices it towards short third, where Bell puts down a presentable chance
back to back boundaries for Kalis! Slanted in on a length in and around off stump. Kalis shuffles across really early and sweeps it fine past the keeper!
A mini-Southern Brave conference taking place. Villiers to bowl. 32 off 15
that should help! Floaty delivery, and that allows Kalis to maneuver it the way she wants. She gives herself room and creams it over extra cover!
The Phoenix need boundaries, and they need them soon
zipped in fuller just outside off. Schutt's turn to advance and she knocks it to long on for a single
flighted up on middle and off. Kalis chips down the track and powers it on the bounce to long off
full on middle and off. Schutt shuffles across and paddles it towards short fine leg before scampering across to the other end
Schutt to try her luck with the bat
straight through Arlott, and Adams is on the board too! Tossed up on a length just outside off. Arlott is beaten in the flight and gets nowhere close to the pitch of the ball. Just a hint of turn and that is enough to take it past Arlott's swishing blade, with the ball pin-balling off the pads into middle stump. The Brave firmly in control now!
39 off 20 now, and this run-chase has gotten appreciably tougher for the Phoenix. Adams again
fired in full on middle and leg. Arlott turns it towards deep mid wicket and keeps strike
