Bangladesh: Month-long camp for World Cup squad

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will send 20 cricketers to Australia to
undergo training as part of its preparations for World Cup 1999. The
cricketers will go through a month-long intensive training programme
beginning August 10 at the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy, formerly
Australian Cricket Academy, in Adelaide.
This was finalised by Deputy Minister for Shipping and BCB president
Saber Hossain Chowdhury during his visit to Australia last month.
According to a senior BCB official, the idea as of the moment is to send
mainly young cricketers who are likely to be included in the Bangladesh
World Cup squad. He emphasised his point by adding that a few senior
players who have seen better years may not be included in the training
squad. All training expenses will be met by the BCB.
Several former Australian cricket Test greats will impart training at
the famous Australian academy which has already produced many Aussie
stars in the shape of Shane Warne, Michael Bevan, Ricky Ponting, Glen
McGrath and Stewart Law.
The eight-to-four training schedule will be conducted through a
well-balanced programme which has already been chalked out and was sent
to the BCB office a few days back..
As per the programme, former Australian Test captain Greg Chappell and
Wayne Philips will train the boys on batting technicalities while Dennis
Lillee will give lessons on pace bowling. Former Australian Test off
spinner Ashley Mallett, leg spinner Terry Jenner and wicketkeeper Rodney
Marsh will also supervise various aspects of the training.
A tough month awaits the boys from Bangladesh with lessons scheduled
from 8 am to 4 pm on working days while the lads will also have four
hours of training on Saturdays and Sundays. Besides, a few video
sessions will be held in evenings.
The news of BCB's move to prepare our national players in Australia
which is a sign of its seriousness was welcomed by sports buffs.
