Mike Kirkman was a legspinner and No. 11 batsman from Dulwich College who played one year in the Cambridge XI, winning his Blue in 1963. Described by The Cricketer as "fairly accurate but with a trajectory that is a shade too easy to judge", he took 3 for 32 on debut against Surrey - those remained his best figures. In a drawn Varsity match, he took 2 for 33 in the second innings but therein lies a tale. "My only real claim to fame is that my meagre career statistics are wrong," he told Cricinfo. "In the 1963 Varsity match Pataudi was caught by Ray White for a duck off my bowling; the scorers thought I was Martin Miller and nobody could change the scorecard."
