8.4 soft dismissal, if I've ever seen one! Short ball on middle and leg, stands up a touch, and all he does is work it off the hips ever so easily into the hands of Morton at short midwicket! 35/2
2.3 whoah! A wayward, short of a length delivery moving well down the pads, Gambhir tries to work it around the corner and there's a noise as he nibbles it, Ramdin collects, they all go up in appeal, and Bowden raises the crooked finger! West Indies make early inroads! 4/1
14.5 great delivery gets his man! Good deception with the full, slower delivery that curls in from just outside off stump, and Dravid plays the wrong line, gets totally beaten by that gem and loses his furniture! Powell is in the middle of a fine spell here, and India are just slipping 46/4
10.4 gone, in another soft manner! A fullish off cutter on off stump, Tendulkar tries to flick on the up over the on side, but can only lob it up for the easiest of catches to mid-on 35/3
40.2 gone! Bradshaw rolls the fingers over this one, landing it short of a length on leg stump and getting it to curl away, Karthik just stands there, attempting to run it fine, but the ball wins this battle and knocks back middle stump 152/8
21.2 gone! Another soft dismissal! Wasnt the greatest ball, slow on a full length just on off stump, Dhoni gets half-forward and plays with an angled bat, just closing the face of the bat, and scoops it back off the leading edge to Smith for a simple caught-and-bowled 66/5
22.6 cleaned him up! Fuller ball outside off stump, moves in a tad, and Joginder's feet go nowhere, he just drives loosely away from his body, hitting through the line is a cardinal sin on this track, and the balls sneaks through the wide gap and disturbs the stumps! India in a real mess, West Indies truly on top! 69/6
30.6 bowled! Another simple, good length delivery just outside off stump, doesnt do anything at all and Harbhajan plays down the wrong line, bringing the bat down late and losing his off stump! 90/7
48.2 all over! Pitches full down leg stump, Zaheer heaves across the line, misses, and responds to the call for the leg bye as the ball rolls to the on side, but in a remarkable display of football skills, Bravo sprints down the track, slides, and parries the ball onto the stumps before Agarkar can ground his bat 189/10
42.5 all over! Pitches on a good length on middle and leg, in a rush of blood Powar has an ungainly swipe across the line, fails to connect, and loses the top of middle stump, India nine down 163/9

1.1 and he strikes first ball! A nippy, back of a length delivery on the stumps, Gayle is fairly leaden-footed, basically plodding the foot an inch or two in front of the stumps, and is rapped dead in front, though there was a noise, suggesting an inside edge....but no, replays show there was no inside edge, it was a legitimate decision from the umpire 5/1
48.2 India go 2-0 up! Full and fast outside off stump, the Zaheer special, to which Chanderpaul loses it all and slogs across the line, missing it and hearing the death rattle behind him 169/10
14.1 short of a length outside off stump, Chanderpaul runs that nicely in the gap behind point, runs one, Smith wants the second, it was there for the taking, but Chanderpaul isnt interested, and as Smith turns to run back, he loses balance and falls down smack in the middle of the pitch, and Dhoni whips off the bails! 41/2
15.5 gone! Tossed up one middle and off, Samuels gets half forward and plays off the front leg, and the ball just flies off the inside edge into the hands of Gambhir at forward short leg, Bhajji strikes early! 42/3
26.2 gone! Powar tosses it up, lovely rotation on that ball, Bravo lunges forward in defence but plays with a slightly angled bat and Gambhir at forward short leg gobbles up the catch off the inside edge 85/4
26.6 bowled 'em! Powar tosses up another lethal ripper that pitches outside off stump and spins in a mile and Morton, clueless, prods half-forward and leaves it alone, only to look on in horror as the ball curls in to knock back off stump, classic offspinner's dismissal 89/5
37.2 Tendulkar strikes with an innocuous delivery! It was short and turning away from Smith but he rocks back, eyeing the on side, and only succeeds in getting under the stroke and holing out to Powar at wide long-on 139/6
40.6 cleaned him up with the last ball of his spell! Tossed up invitingly again, and an impetuous Ramdin charges down the track and heaves across the line, but as he's done all evening Powar gets this to spin in sharply and it disturbs the furniture! 151/7
45.3 looped down quicker outside off stump and it stops and turns away, Bradshaw is in no position to play at it in an aggressive manner, which he does, trying some sort of initial cut/slap and through he tries to withdraw the bat, he ends up spooning a simple catch to Gambhir at point 163/8
46.4 RUN OUT! Short of a length outside off stump, he dabs it fine down to Joginder at third man, who misfields the ball first, encouraging the batsmen to think about the second - what to they always say in school? NEVER run on a misfield, but some people dont learn. Chanderpaul starts off for the second, then sees Joginder throwing the ball back to Dhoni and sends Powell back, but he is caught well short of his crease 166/9

Match Notes

  • Poor planning leads to poor pitch

Lack of proper planning seems to be the reason behind the sluggish pitch laid out for the second one-dayer at Cuttack

  • An admirable defence, but batting worries remain

India continued a fine tradition of defending low totals, especially against West Indies but hopefully the team management won't gloss over another miserable top-order capitulation on a pitch that wasn't the featherbed that they seem to require these days

  • Security concerns over Barabati Stadium's future

The manhandling of Greg Chappell at Bhubaneshwar airport and reports of the security of the Indian players under threat could jeopardise the future of Cuttack's Barabati Stadium as an international venue, the Indian board (BCCI) said

  • 'One of my best' - Karthik

The demons on the pitch were working overtime - Sourav Ganguly fell pushing too early, Sachin Tendulkar perished driving loosely, India limping at 35 for 3 - when Dinesh Karthik entered the fray

  • India clinch thrilling victory

Ramesh Powar led a disciplined bowling performance on a slow and low pitch to steer India to a thrilling 20-run victory at Nagpur.
