Well, matches don't come much more one-sided. That was an emphatic victory by South Africa, making their statement in style. Hall teed up proceedings for them, with a fantastic five-wicket haul and then Smith took them home in dominant, brutal style.

Boos from the crowd for the England side and they head off with heads hanging, as they should. Their performance was no better than abject.

"We did this for the people back at home," says AB de Villiers. "To go through to the semis is an awesome feeling."

"Our performance today was pretty average," says Vaughan, mastering understatement. My word he sounds deflated. Hardly a surprise, mind.

No prizes for guessing the prize of man of the match. That man Hall.

12000 List A runs for Kallis by the way. Needs one more to be leading runscorer. And he's three away from 9000. These stats were brought to you by Cricinfo's team of winners. Well done

Mahmood to Smith, 1 run

The Sky commentary team are flailing for positives for England from this. "There are none really," concedes Atherton eventually. True enough

1
Mahmood to Kallis, 1 run

flamingo-whipped in front of midwicket, very Pietersen-esque, and we like that - a good, clean strike

17.4
Mahmood to Kallis, no run

bouncer attempt - at 87mph (140kph) - and the batsman backs away from it, trying to hoick it out of the ground

Mahmood to Smith, (no ball)

top-edged a pull, Nixon takes, celebrates, and that's a no-ball. Nixon could have run him out if he wasn't busy over-celebrating like a big winner

Flintoff snatches back his cap, puts it on his head, keeps his head bowed and he's grateful to have something to hide under.

16.4
Flintoff to Smith, no run

very wide, and Smith got bat on that else it would have been called, I suspect, the ball bouncing down in front of Nixon

Smith and Kallis meet for a chat and it's grins agogo

Flintoff to Smith, FOUR runs

outside off and that's just laughably good - Smith over the top and that's wide of Anderson, South Africa closing in on the rout

Flintoff to Smith, FOUR runs

on off and this time it's driven to the other side of the sticks, past Flintoff, and that's away through mid-off this time - Smith giving that the full force. Good stuff
