The weather was the only winner at Headingley where the Roses match ended in a rain-soaked draw after both side's had anxiously hoped for any sort of play.
Yorkshire had closed the third day of the County Championship game on 199 for 8 in 63 overs, which meant they required just one more run for a solitary batting bonus point while Lancashire needed one more wicket to pick up a third bowling point.
Neither captain was keen to call it a day but with no improvement in sight at four o'clock umpires Barry Dudleston and Nigel Cowley decided the ground could not dry out in time even if the rain stopped.
Had a start been made then a further point would have given Yorkshire a clear lead at the top of the First Division table, but they are now second to Nottinghamshire who are level on points but have more wins. With the first day of the match also falling foul of the weather, it became the first time in two seasons that Yorkshire had suffered two blank days in a Championship fixture.
Both Yorkshire and Lancashire are now poised to begin their Twenty20 programme and will not resume Championship cricket until they meet in the Roses match at Old Trafford on June 28.
