Pascal stars in big Windward Islands win

Seamer Nelon Pascal finished with a match haul of eight wickets to guide Windward Islands to a comprehensive nine-wicket win against Barbados in St Lucia.

Barbados, put in to bat, could only manage 213 in their first innings. The team's captain Kraigg Brathwaite top-scored with 82 and Carlos Brathwaite chipped in with 44, but none of the other batsmen could manage more than 19 as Pascal snared five scalps to bundle the team out in 80.5 overs.

Windward Islands then earned a 39-run lead, thanks to fifties from Liam Sebastien (62) and Lindon James (62*) which helped the team recover from a shaky start to post 252 for 9 declared. Barbados would've hoped for a better showing in their second innings, but they were bowled out for 90 in 32.4 overs. This time, it was the left-arm medium-pacer Kenroy Peters responsible for the damage, ending with 5 for 16 to run through Barbados' line-up and set Windward Islands just 52 for victory.

Windward Islands lost Devon Smith during the chase, but Johnson Charles' unbeaten 32 took the team home in 11 overs.

A first day burst from bowlers that skittled Guyana for 117 set the foundation of a comfortable seven-wicket win for Jamaica in their opening Regional Four Day Competition match in Kingston.

Andre Russell struck thrice to leave Guyana in trouble on 46 for 4 after Jamaica had put the visitors in to bat and their situation only got worse once spinner Jamie Merchant was introduced. His dismissal of Anthony Bramble triggered a lower-order collapse that say Guyana losing their last six wickets for 37 runs. Both Merchant and Russell finished with four wickets in the innings.

Jamaica's openers responded with a partnership of 71, with John Campbell going on to complete his half-century. Another half-century from No 3 Nkrumah Bonner meant Jamaica were in lead with nine wickets in hand. Veerasammy Permaul though struck regularly and none of the following batsmen could cross 50. Permaul's five wickets ensured Jamaica were bowled out for less than 300, but Jamaica had a 177-run lead.

Guyana produced an improved batting performance in the second innings, with Vishaul Singh's 73 leading the way. But once Singh was dismissed by Jerome Taylor, there wasn't much resistance. Taylor ended up with five wickets as Guyana were bowled out for 264. Jamaica, chasing 88, lost the first-innings half-centurion Campbell early and another two wickets but overhauled the target comfortably in 25 overs.

An eight-wicket match haul from the offspinner Hayden Walsh guided Leeward Islands to a 72-run win against Combined Campuses and Colleges in St Kitts. Leeward Islands, batting first, could only make 164. Mali Richards (50) and Sylvester Joseph (39) buoyed the team with a 69-run partnership for the third wicket, but the team completely collapsed from 124 for 2, losing all their remaining wickets for just 40 runs. Akeem Dewar was the pick of CCC's bowlers, finishing with 4 for 42.

CCC, however, failed to build a substantial lead as Walsh snared four wickets to run through the team's middle order. Shacaya Thomas and Raymon Reifer both scored fifties, but none of the other batsmen could produce more than 23, and the team folded for 202 in 66.2 overs.

Leeward Islands fared better in the second innings, thanks to a century from Jahmar Hamilton (119) which lifted the team to 299. CCC were set 262 for victory, but their chase was dented by wickets at regular intervals from Walsh and Gavin Tonge. Chadwick Walton was the only batsman who offered some respite, scoring 56, as the team were dismissed for 189 in 61 overs.
