it's all over now, West Indies win their first game of the tour as Dowlin dispatches that short one over midwicket for a boundary
West Indies vs Bangladesh, Only T20I at Basseterre, Aug 02 2009 - Ball by Ball Commentary
West Indies won by 5 wickets (with 19 balls remaining)
Finally, some relief for the hosts on what's been a disappointing tour. However, it's not a clean sweep for Banglladesh, and West Indies can take some pride in challenging them hard in some of the games and winning this one. Devon Smith and Travis Dowlin were the stars of the chase today, and despite the quick wickets at the end the home team had the game well in control. We'll get you the details from the presentation in just a bit.
Shakib: "We didn't bat well, especially the top order. We didn't play smart cricket. We didn't execute the gameplan well. If you have four run-outs, it's going to be difficult. We played very good cricket for the last one month, and we are looking forward to the Zimbabwe tour. The people and the beaches have been great here."
Reifer: "The guys fielded very well. You've got to be sharp in the field in this form of the game. I told the guys to look forward to the future, and keeping improving while playing hard for West Indies. It was one win we needed to get into winning ways. Travis had a good series. Dave Bernard, Roach and Sammy too. We have a lot of positives to take from this tour."
Sammy is the Man of the Match
Sammy: "I've been working hard on my game. I missed the ODI series against India, and the coaches told me what i had to do. I stuck to the basics and it paid off. I made a conscious effort to go out there and do what the team needs. I have played for West Indies before but really didn't contribute to the bat, but did so now. I've been practicing with the bowling machine and it has really helped."
That's all we have from here folks. Hope you enjoyed our coverage for the entire tour. Until the next time, it's goodbye from all of us here at Cricinfo.
pushed off the back foot towards cover
fired in full on middle and off, driven towards cover
fired in quick outside off, tries to dig it out but can't connect
low full toss on the off stump, driven to mid-on right at the circle for a quick single
Just five more to get. One hit will do it. Bernard is the new man in
a freakish end this, short on the off stump, turns in, tries to smack it over midwicket, mistimes it completely as it takes the top edge and Mahmudullah at long-on takes a comfortable catch
Sammy off the mark in style, full on middle, lofts it straight back over the bowler's head for a flat six, off the middle
flighted on the off, driven down the ground to long-on for a single
flighted on middle, drags it straight to midwicket
Sammy comes in
charges down the track and tries to clear long-off this time but doesn't get the timing right, more elevation than distance on that one and Mahmudullah holds his nerve to take it over his head just inside the ropes
nice, clean strike, Ashraful tosses it up on middle, comes down the track, gets to the pitch and clears long-on with a free flow of the bat, straight into the stands
poor ball, short on leg stump, begging to be hit, pulls it away with disdain behind square for a boundary, just 18 more needed
full and wide, chases it and gets into a really awkward position at it spins away, falls over infact, quite embarassing
on middle and leg, comes down the track and swipes it towards deep midwicket for one more
bunts it through the off side towards deep cover for a single
tossed up, landed on the off stump and spun away just a touch, Dowlin went for a massive heave over midwicket, missed and was struck on the pads, but it probably would have missed off
tossed it up, buts its well outside off, tries to dig it out, missed
Mehrab is back
pushed just wide of midwicket off the front foot but the single isn't there
Reifer strikes that cleanly, comes down the track, gets to the pitch and clips it over midwicket for a boundary
flighted just outside off, worked just wide of midwicket for a quick single
